We work together to drive ambition for every future!PurposeContributes to the overall success of the First Line and the Compliance Department in both the U.S. and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Serves as Compliance Officer within Bank Regulatory Compliance of the U.S. operation of The Bank of Nova Scotia (the “BNS”). The position will provide support to the GBM&T in implementing Volcker Rule Compliance Program in the U.S. and Canada.What You’ll DoLeads and drives a customer-focused culture by working to assist the U.S. Legal Department and global business line Compliance teams in assuring investments and acquisitions by enterprise-wide business lines adhere to governing regulations and internal policies and procedures.Provide Volcker Rule specific regulatory advice to GBM&T business lines and support functions in the U.S. and Canada, including advice on the impact of regulatory changes.Work collaboratively with other members of the Bank Regulatory Compliance team to support the U.S. and Canadian trading businesses.Work closely with global teams on enhancements to the Bank’s enterprise Volcker Compliance Program and participate on work streams for projects requiring Volcker Rule interpretation.Approve Desk Operating Plans and Annual Desk Assessments to ensure content is consistent with Volcker classifications.Conduct monitoring for Volcker breaches and ensure valid breaches are promptly remediated and senior management is informed.Execute Enterprise Compliance requirements such as the review of GBM&T Recordkeeping Index and other Volcker artifacts.Draft and update policies and procedures related to Volcker Rule compliance.Review new business initiatives being introduced in the U.S. and Canada for compliance with enterprise Volcker requirements.Review and challenge Volcker Rule controls inventories as part of the Compliance Risk Assessment.Deliver Volcker compliance training to U.S. and Canadian staff, including identifying the scope of personnel requiring the training, preparing the training materials, and giving presentations.Manage and respond to Audit, Compliance Testing, and regulatory examination findings and self-identified issues to ensure appropriate action plans are put in place to address Volcker-related issues and close findings.Provide ongoing reporting on the status of the Volcker Compliance Program, including reporting to senior management and governance forums such as the Volcker Oversight Committee and SHUSI Board.Other duties and projects as may be assigned..Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.What You’ll BringA minimum of 7-10 years of legal or compliance experience, including significant experience supporting trading businesses.Significant subject matter expertise on the Volcker Rule and its application and related Industry standards for compliance.Ability to operate with minimal direction, set goals and manage priorities.Relevant compliance experience, including policies and procedures development, the provision of compliance training, compliance risk assessments, responding to regulatory inquiries, etc.Experience in interfacing with regulators.Experience operating and coordinating programs across large matrixed organizations.Strong organizational, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills required.Strong leadership skills and demonstrable experience and success in working in high-performance teams.Post graduate degree (J.D. or MBA) preferred but not required.College Degree required.Interested?If your experience is closely related but doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we do encourage you to apply - you might be the right candidate for this or other roles at Scotiabank!At Scotiabank, every employee is empowered to reach their fullest potential, respected for who they are and, embraced for their differences.
