Job Summary

The Associate Director works closely with the Director to foster a positive environment and a healthy work culture while executing the department's strategic plan.

Direct Reports:

  • Assistant Director, Competitive Sports
  • Coordinator of Fitness
  • Coordinator of Aquatics
  • Coordinator of Competitive Sports (Indirect)

Program Areas: Fitness, Intramurals, Club Sports, Aquatics and Outdoors (anticipated)

This role demands strong interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to learning new skills, and the flexibility to assist with department functions beyond primary responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation or related field. Three to five years experience in administering IM program, risk management in regards to travel, and teaching non-credit courses. One to three years experience in university setting.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in Campus Recreation or related field. 3-5 years experience with supervision of professional staff in the following areas: competitive sports, fitness, aquatics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing goals and objectives.
  • Designing and implementing techniques for evaluating program activities.
  • Overseeing and approving priorities and standards to achieve goals.
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
  • Identifying areas for improvement and recommending operational and programmatic changes.
  • Managing and reviewing program budget expenditures.
  • Assisting with department special events.
  • Overseeing risk management audits and compliance.
  • Leading assessment projects.
  • Managing a program area as needed.
  • Tracking and adapting to industry trends.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Job requires you to periodically walk around the facility and stand for short lengths of time. Some pushing/pulling is required for certain tasks.

Additional Information

Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
