In this role, you will assume a pivotal position in shaping and executing the State’s strategic vision for Online Safety and Responsible AI, ensuring the digital safety and resiliency of our State. Serves as the principal advisor to the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor on matters of Online Safety and Responsible AI:Oversees day-to-day operations of the Office of Homeland Security’s Platform Integrity Division.Develops and implements Illinois’ Homeland Security Strategy and Policy as it pertains to Online Safety.Develops and implements Illinois’ Homeland Security Strategy and Policy as it pertains to Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI).Coordinates with key public safety stakeholders State-wide to develop and implement education and prevention programs across the State pertaining to Online Safety and Responsible AI.Participates in resource allocation decisions, ensuring optimal utilization of funding, personnel, and technology for effective outcomes.Mentors and guides various teams while encouraging professional growth and fostering a culture of acceptance and excellence.2. Provides briefings, as required, to the Homeland Security Advisor/IEMA-OHS Director, Deputy Homeland Security Advisor/IEMA-OHS Deputy Director of Homeland Security, Assistant Deputy Director of Homeland Security, Governor's Office, the Legislature, and other City, County, Federal or State officials, as well as private industry on matters of Online Safety and Responsible AI.Serves as a liaison for, and represents, the Homeland Security Advisor/IEMA-OHS Director and the Deputy Homeland Security Advisor/ IEMA-OHS Deputy Director of Homeland Security to the Governor's Office, the Legislature, and other City, County, Federal or State officials, as well as a subject matter expert pertaining to Online Safety and Responsible AI.Formulate and implement policies and/or legislation that address online safety, data integrity, and responsible AI practices in collaboration with key stakeholders across the State.3. Serves as a full-line supervisor:Directs and supervises staff and establishes performance goals and objectives.Approves time off and provides guidance and training.Conducts performance appraisals and provides feedback.Counsels staff on quality of work.Determines staffing needs to achieve program objectives.Directs and supervises the activities of contract personnel.Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs.Effectively recommends and imposes discipline, up to including discharge.Prepares and signs performance evaluations.4. Serves as a liaison to communicate and advocate policy goals and implementation strategies, which includes travel.5. Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.Minimum Qualifications1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.2. Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.Preferred Qualifications1. Eight (8) years of professional experience in a social media technology company.2. Eight (8) years of professional experience evaluating trends and developing a program/unit/initiative within a social media technology company, preferably within the Platform Integrity, Core Operations and/or Trust and Safety Operations verticals.3. Eight (8) years of professional experience planning and directing the implementation a program/unit/initiative within a social media technology company, preferably within the Platform Integrity, Core Operations and/or Trust and Safety Operations verticals.4. Five (5) years of professional experience working complex investigations at a technology company.5. Six (6) years of professional experience working complex investigations associated with threats pertaining to artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality technologies.6. Three (3) years of professional experience with most of the work including projects directly related to public safety technology preparedness (i.e., safety-by-design).7. Proven experience in fostering collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve critical outcomes.8. Demonstrated ability to work closely with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement effective plans for handling responses to critical escalations.9. Proficient in implementing metrics and key performance indicators and regularly report on their status to senior leadership.10. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage organizational change, adapting strategies to evolving threats and technological landscapes.11. Demonstrated ability to effectively communication complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership, and the public.12. Proficiency in project management to oversee the implementation of initiatives, ensuring timelines, budgets, and objectives are met.Conditions of Employment1. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.2.
