Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA.


The Video Producer is responsible for overseeing the development and production of APA Video titles, including reviewing and giving final sign-off on all Video Series titles before release; supervising vendors, contractors, partnering institutions, producers, and psychologists/members in the creation of video products; shaping individual video content by providing direction on topics covered, resolving issues involving ethics and confidentiality, and evaluating and advising on video productions; and codeveloping diverse video products with the Director, APA Videos.


Education and Experience Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts required. Bachelor's degree in English, psychology, or social science preferred.
  • 3 years in publishing environment, preferably associated with video media production. Basic knowledge of general publishing procedures.
  • Ability to become adept at working with outside vendors and supervising work of contractors/vendors.
  • Strong written language skills. Knowledge of editing/proofreading preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn about psychology and develop comfort with psychological topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required, for effective interaction with guest therapists, producers, vendors, coworkers, and contractors.
  • Flexibility and ability to take on new tasks.
  • Ability to track numerous projects and numerous categories of projects.

Computer Skills Required:


  • Microsoft Word (advanced user)
  • Microsoft Excel (advanced user)
  • Microsoft Power Point (user)
  • Ability to quickly learn Camtasia or other video capture/editing software (user)
  • Knowledge of title management database principles, FireBrand preferred (proficient)

Responsibilities:


  • Developing and producing APA Video titles consistent with the quality standards for which APA videos are known, adhering to schedules and budgets.
  • Representing APA to guest experts in the video series, who are by and large members, and maintaining collegial relationships with them.
  • Supervising release of all new individual video titles.
  • Working with staff and guest experts to ensure partners in Marketing/Sales have the information needed to accurately represent video products.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records of all video productions and assisting in budget preparation.
  • Cultivating sensitivity to and knowledge of the subject matter, including sufficient facility to inform creation of videos on topics in psychology.
  • Other duties as assigned.
