This Client’s Film Archives is home to physical moving image production elements and documents. The collection dates back to the origins of the company and includes over 200,000 film, audio, video, data, and non-AV assets. The Archive team acquires, catalogs, safeguards, and preserves the company’s production and legacy media and works closely with the video archive team to preserve, digitize, and migrate the collection for franchise and production use.

The Archives Assistant provides operational support to the Film Archives department. They will primarily be engaged in collection management workflows such as inventory creation and reconciliation, archival rehousing, assigning locations, and cataloging; as well as moving image media handling (such as film inspection, repair, scan prep). This role will also work within the Image Archive to inventory, rehouse physical media, and support general collection management.

Responsibilities:

  • Collection processing, identification, inspection, inventory, and cataloging of archival film, video, documents, and still image materials.
  • Archival film handling, identification of motion picture film elements, repair, and preparation for scanning.
  • Support departmental initiatives related to preservation, digitization planning, and collection management.
  • Collection research utilizing in-house datasets and outside sources.
  • Scan documents, manage digital files, and refine metadata within the Film Archives department’s digital asset management workspace.
  • Attend and contribute to regular archive check-in meetings to coordinate with the Asset teams and provide updates.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience with moving image archival collections.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel and Google Sheets).
  • Applied knowledge of still and moving image collection or digital asset management systems.
  • Applied knowledge of best archival practices for moving image media storage, handling, identification, and care.
  • Working knowledge of digital preservation procedures and workflows.
  • Experience with image, document, motion picture ephemera, or visual art collections considered highly desirable.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask over multiple projects.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with hands-on delicate tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of live-action film production.
  • Excellent time management and strong organizational skills.
  • Works independently as well as take direction from others.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must sign NDA and follow all security measures to protect company IP and strategy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Media Preservation Certificate.

  • Master’s Degree in Moving Image Archiving & Preservation, MLIS, or MARA.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $32.41 to $36.02/Hourly (W2). Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
