Job Summary:
The Purchasing Manager at our Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) repair station in the aviation industry is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the procurement process. This role involves sourcing and purchasing materials, parts, and services necessary for aircraft maintenance and repair operations. The Purchasing Manager ensures that the station maintains optimal inventory levels, negotiates with suppliers for the best terms, and collaborates with various departments to meet operational needs while adhering to budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing:
    Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the availability of high-quality materials and parts at the best possible prices.
    Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, both domestic and international, to expand the supplier base and mitigate risks.
    Establish long-term relationships with key suppliers to secure favorable terms and ensure reliability.
  • Supplier Management:
    Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
    Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery times, and adherence to agreements, and take corrective action as needed.
    Conduct regular supplier audits and assessments to ensure continued compliance with industry standards and requirements.
  • Inventory Management:
    Oversee the management of inventory levels to ensure that parts and materials are available when needed while minimizing excess stock.
    Work closely with the production and maintenance teams to forecast demand and plan procurement accordingly.
    Implement and maintain inventory control systems to track stock levels, usage, and reorder points.
  • Budget and Cost Control:
    Develop and manage the purchasing department’s budget, ensuring alignment with overall company financial goals.
    Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement initiatives to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality.
    Track and report on key procurement metrics, including cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory turnover.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    Ensure that all purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and government standards (e.g., FAA regulations).
    Manage the procurement of regulated and certified parts, ensuring all documentation and certifications are in place.
    Mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, and market fluctuations through proactive planning and supplier diversification.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    Lead, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing professionals, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
    Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the procurement team.
    Conduct regular performance reviews and identify training opportunities to enhance the team’s skills and knowledge.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
    Collaborate with the engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure that procurement aligns with technical requirements and operational schedules.
    Participate in meetings with senior management to discuss procurement strategies, challenges, and opportunities.
    Support the continuous improvement of procurement processes and systems by working closely with other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; a master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM) is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager, preferably within the aviation or MRO industry.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, and supplier negotiation.
  • Familiarity with aviation industry regulations, including FAA requirements and standards.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with standard office hours; occasional travel to visit suppliers or attend industry events may be required.
  • Office environment with occasional interaction on the production floor.
  • Collaborative work environment with cross-departmental coordination.
