We are looking for capable and self-motivated generalists to help support our fast-growing AI safety research community. Strong candidates are mission-driven, excited about AI safety field-building, have experience in operations and management, and enjoy fast-paced, dynamic work.

Details

Compensation ranges from $85k-$125k per year, depending on experience. This is a full-time role, and candidates must be willing to work from Berkeley, CA.

Role Summary

The Operations Manager reports to the Co-Director (Operations) and leads the rest of the operations team. This involves coordinating the team to fulfill the day-to-day needs of the organization, providing managerial oversight of ongoing projects, aiding the Co-Directors in planning and allocating the budget, managing the organization’s finances and bookkeeping, and always acting as a generalist to fulfill emergent needs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Coordinating the lease and set up of office space with our vendors;
  2. Forecasting budgetary needs and allocating resources accordingly;
  3. Negotiate and review terms and contracts with vendors;
  4. Coordinate and maintain organizational infrastructure;
  5. Conducting performance reviews of the operations team members;
  6. Interfacing with stakeholders and other relevant organizations, such as SERI, BERI, FAR Labs, Lightcone, and Constellation;
  7. Managing and iterating upon MATS tools and communication systems;
  8. Responding to spontaneous operational needs as they arise; and
  9. Generally helping ensure the smooth operation of MATS.

Required Criteria

  1. US work authorization required;
  2. Located in or willing to move to Berkeley, CA;
  3. At least 2-4 years of professional experience, preferably in the following areas:
  4. Project/people management;
  5. Financial management;
  6. Operations and/or event production.
