JOB SUMMARY
As a Principal Engineer (VAVE/Design) you will have developed an expertise in many fields of engineering or within a particular sector related to Energy Power Distribution/Storage/Data Center Infrastructure. You will have evaluated various types of products at all phases of product development (pre and post production) for best design practices and/or will have lead or been a leader to Value Engineers or Design Engineering teams throughout the product development cycle. At a Principal level, you will be expected to demonstrate a level of expertise in many and/or a particular area that matches or exceeds the expertise of our customers. You will evaluate large- and small-scale products (focus on large scale), consult on system architectures, assess technical requirements and competencies needed during quoting, conduct product evaluations, conduct design concepts/designs, and support design progressions during product developments.
LOCATION
This role will be based on-site at our St. Petersburg, FL - Gandy facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Meet the requirements of Lead Design Engineer in your respective expertise
· Will represent Jabil Design Engineering in technical customer discussions / meetings
· Work with Project Managers in the quoting process
· Provide technical input to help identify and solve project risks that may affect overall project plans and schedules
· Is expected to support the development and utilization of processes for design
· Mentoring of all engineering staff
· Stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are competitive and cost effective
· Raise perception of Jabil’s acumen in the industry by authoring or presenting papers, articles, etc.
· Should be associated with applicable industry trade groups/organizations maintaining active membership and participation
· Work with Site Directors to define potential R&D project proposals that will help increase areas of competencies needed
· Lead the development and implementation of platform and product architectures in collaboration with senior technical staff
· Guide and oversee the development of system component requirements, interfaces, and specifications necessary to maintain the consistency and integrity of the architectures
· Manage product design and documentation at a system level
· Perform independent research and engineering studies
· Lead or support remote Value Engineering and/or Design Development teams
· Effectively consult on multiple projects in parallel
· Develop IP Patents, Technical Publications or White Papers
· May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
• Strong experience in manufacturing assy environment
• Knowledge and practical experience in DFA (Design for Assembly) evaluations
• CAD Model manipulation for evaluations and concept proposals
• Knowledge of manufacturing line equipment and processes
• Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing equipment and processes
• Experience in physical product teardowns and various evaluations
• Mechanical component design experience (SolidWorks and/or Creo)
• Mechanical Component Level DFM (Experience in Plastics and Metals DFM as well as any DFM Software Tool Use)
• Large Scale Electronic Systems visionary design knowledge
• Large Scale DCI (Data Center Infrastructure/Equipment) knowledge
• Large Scale HVAC Systems experience
• Large Scale Wiring experience (Harness Routing and Assy knowledge)
• Sealing design experience for Large Scale Systems/Enclosures
• Piping assys, piping connections, piping materials, fluid pumps, air flow, flow meters, valves, etc.
• Product Cost savings Idea generation
• Welding types, processes and welding symbols/Cad interpretation/knowledge
• General costing knowledge of mechanical components and tooling types at volume
• Drawing Interpretation
• Tolerance stack up analysis

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 12+ years of related experience in Mechanical Design and/or Value Engineering
• Minimum of 2+ years' experience as a Lead Engineer or Technical Program Manager
• Minimum of 6+ years in a Manufacturing/Assy environment
• Power Distribution/Energy storage/Data Center Infrastructure systems experience is a huge plus
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience
