The Patient Family Housing Program provides affordable accommodations for families, parents, or guardians of patients at Boston Children's Hospital who reside more than 50 miles from the hospital. This program is designed to alleviate the financial burden of lodging, while ensuring families can remain close to their children during medical treatment. Families can stay at two convenient locations: The Yawkey Family Inn, located at 241 Kent Street in Brookline, and The Bon at 1260 Boylston Street in Boston. Both properties are equipped to offer a supportive environment, allowing families to focus on their child's care while enjoying comfortable and accessible accommodations.

We are seeking a dedicated Family Housing Specialist-weekend/overnight to administer the operating policies and procedures of our hospital's housing program. This role involves collaboration with the Program Manager and various hospital departments to ensure the needs of resident families are met.

Principle Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administer and implement operating policies and procedures for the housing program.
  • Review reservation requests and confirmations, ensuring efficient handling and communication.
  • Provide volunteer support and manage requests related to housekeeping and supplies.
  • Oversee security and transportation needs in collaboration with hospital departments.
  • Ensure compliance with house rules, procedures, and protocols among guests.
  • Stay informed about the medical status of children and changing family needs that impact reservations.
  • Facilitate positive interactions among resident families, managing feedback and addressing needs.
  • Assist with support services based on the program manager's guidance.
  • Manage crisis situations, including medical and stressful emergencies, in compliance with hospital and City of Boston policies.
  • Work as part of a 24/7 team across two properties, providing support whenever needed.

To qualify, you must have:

  • The availability to work two Saturday-to-Sunday shifts (including one 24-hour shift per pay period) and rotating holidays.
  • Two years of applicable education or training in human services or hospitality.
  • At least one year of experience in a related role.
  • Strong analytical skills along with basic computer knowledge.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; capable of demonstrating empathy in difficult situations.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity when engaging with patients, families and staff.
