POSITION: Dental AssistantDEPARTMENT: DentalNATURE OF POSITION: Performs those duties that assist the dental manager,dentists, and hygienists in the care of and treatment of patients. Performs duties in thefields of reception, chair-side assisting, inventory, and records.SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Reports to Chief Dental OfficerMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from high school minimalPrevious dental assisting experience preferredAbility to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to communicate in English and Spanish preferredAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staffIs able to motivate patients to follow guidance given to them by dentists and hygienistsPrepare and maintain charts, records, logs and reports.Radiology certified.RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists the dentist and hygienist in chair-side proceduresAmalgamsCompositesOral surgeryEndodonticsProphylaxisSealantsStainless steel crownsSpace maintainersRemovable ProsthodonticsResponsible for the preparation and setting up of instruments.Dating of all sterilized instrumentsUltrasonic cleaning of all dirty instruments prior to baggingSterilization of all appropriate instruments.Daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and monitoring of equipmentCompressorSterilizersRadiographic developing equipmentEvacuator systems.Assist dentist in operating room:Obtains operating room privilegesMaintenance of supplies in operating room boxTransportation of necessary equipment.Follows all OSHA standards and institutional policies as stated in Regulatory Compliance Manual, and Health Center Policy and Procedure ManualAssists in obtaining prior approval for selective Medicaid ProceduresAssists dentists with school sealant projectsMaintains supplies in sealant boxAssists in transportation of equipmentChairside assists in the schoolsCompletes and maintains dental laboratory formsMaintains all dental lab slips for a minimum of two (2) yearsSends all cases to the labNotifies patient when appliance is readyPours and disinfects dental impressionsOrders and maintains dental suppliesAssists front desk with clerical duties as neededRadiology servicesExposes and processes dentalMaintains and updates Radiation Safety Program annuallyMaintains and monitors all dosimeter badgesPerforms all duties as allowed by the state board of Medical ExaminersTopical fluoride applicationTopical anesthetic applicationOther duties as assigned by dental providersPowered by JazzHR
