Job Summary

As the General Manager, you'll lead and inspire a team in the heart of warehouse and transload operations, seamlessly coordinating the movement of freight between truck and rail to ensure continuous improvement and exceed customer expectations. You'll oversee the maintenance of our cutting-edge facility and equipment, driving efficiency and operational excellence every step of the way. What you will do

  • Assumes broad responsibility for all activities, processes, regulations and procedures associated with the unloading, storing and loading of freight between any combination of truck and rail, including palletized freight as well and dry bulk commodities.
  • Plans, directs, and implements all activities in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.
  • Responsible for the planning and operations of a warehouse and transload facility to ensure efficient and timely response to customer needs. Seeks to exceed customer expectations. Participates in new business development activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for the overall budgeting, planning, successful execution and annual net income of the group.
  • Responsible for the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), injuries, safety, compliance, customer service and general goals, objectives, and long-term strategy of the distribution facility.
  • Communicates with labor officials and participates in labor contract negotiations and resolution of other labor issues.
  • Promotes solid community relations. Demonstrates leadership in all aspects of public and employee safety.
  • Performs all management duties including, but not limited to, budgeting, hiring, performance reviews, coordinating and scheduling work, salary recommendations, discipline, ensure employees report to work fit for duty, leadership, grievance resolution, coaching & counseling, models Alliant Energy's Core Values at all times.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business administration, transportation management or related area Preferred

Required Experience

  • 7 years of experience in commodity transportation, warehousing or related areas, and/or experience with and around transload and warehouse equipment
  • 7 years supervisory experience

Preferred Experience

  • Profit and loss experience

Other Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of warehousing customs, railroad locomotives/switch engine and rail operations, dust control, truck scales, and inventory processes are preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop short- and long-term strategic plans and translate those plans into action.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to administer company and union work rules, contract and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and transportation regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
