This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.Nature of Work: This is the journey level of real estate work reviewing appraisals made for the partial or whole acquisition or disposal of real estate for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). Employees make determinations and recommendations for the fair market value, just compensation, or highest and best use of real estate to be acquired or excess property sold by the State Highway Administration or other modal administrations within MDOT. These employees review appraisals made by Real Property Specialists and outside appraisal consultants furnished by property owners and/or attorneys or conduct their own appraisals. You can learn about our amazing benefits here: MDOT Benefits Guide."The State Highway Administration (SHA) has been named Training Magazine’s Training APEX Awards for the fifth consecutive year."QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by two courses in real estate appraisal approved by the Maryland State Real Estate Appraisers Commission.Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the preparation or review of appraisals used as the basis for the acquisition or disposal of real property, including partial acquisition appraisals.Preferred Qualification:The ideal candidate should have the following :Possess a State Appraisal CertificationExcellent written and oral communication skillsNotes:Additional experience as described above may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required bachelor's degree. Provided the applicant has successfully completed the required real estate appraisal courses.Applicants may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under Minimum Qualifications on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience provided the applicant has successfully completed the required real estate appraisal courses.Licenses & CertificationsCandidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.Additional InformationTO APPLY: All applicants must submit an application online at (use of this option allows the application to be saved).
