Battery cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. We are looking for a highly motivated engineer to serve as technical lead to bridge existing materials engineers and component owners to expanding development projects with our external cell vendors.
Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for cell materials and mechanical components in development projects with our external cell suppliers
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate and benchmark new materials, components and cell designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (cell design, program management, modeling, etc.) to lead materials from concept to product
  • Identify and troubleshoot materials-related issues during production or testing phases, working with our suppliers to resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate key learnings to cross-functional internal teams, material suppliers and cell vendors
Requirements
  • Background in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
  • Strong foundation in electrochemistry and materials science
  • Experience in Li-ion cell design, cell manufacturing and/or failure analysis
  • Exposure to working with Li-ion cell manufacturers is a plus
  • Proficiency in Mandarin, Korean or Japanese is a plus
  • Quarterly international travel to cell and material suppliers is expected

    • Expected Compensation
      $84,000 - $180,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
