As the Senior Business Enablement Manager at WaFd Bank, you will lead and mentor a dedicated team focused on developing WaFd Bank’s data into a strategic asset. Reporting directly to the Chief Data Officer, you will play a pivotal role in setting strategy and in leadership of the data department. You will oversee data governance initiatives, partnering with stakeholders across the organization to improve data literacy and develop a common language for business. Your team actively seeks out data quality challenges, partnering with business units to clean data and address the root causes by redesigning and automating business processes.
Your leadership will drive the expansion of WaFd’s data literacy by championing the power of data, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement. Collaboration is core to this role, requiring you to work closely with various departments to ensure data initiatives are delivering value and aligned with organizational objectives. Experience in fintech or a financial institution is a significant advantage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Team Leadership and Development: Hire, manage, and mentor a strong team of data professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture with excellent customer service in alignment with WaFd’s values. Work with stakeholders to set goals, balance priorities, and focus the team on high-value work. Provide hands-on guidance, performance assessments, and professional development opportunities for the team.
- Data Governance: Establish and collaboratively lead a data governance program that builds out a common business language, ensuring data consistency, integrity, quality, and security across the organization. Develop and enforce data policies, standards, and best practices. Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability roles within the organization.
- Business Process Improvement: Partner with business units to identify and prioritize business processes that are inefficient or are the root cause of bad data. Develop and implement process improvements and automations that improve efficiency and enhance data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Data Management and Integrity: Collaborate with business units to identify and prioritize data quality improvement opportunities. Lead initiatives to clean and remediate bad or inconsistent data. Implement data quality metrics and monitoring systems to track improvements and ensure sustained high-quality data.
- Analytics Ambassador: Promote data literacy and culture across the organization by advocating for the value of data by organizing workshops and training sessions. Engage with business leaders to bridge communication gaps and identify business problems that can be solved with data.
- Risk / Compliance: Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations. Maintain a working knowledge of security threats, laws, and policy for data privacy and protection in the complex regulatory environment of financial institutions. Take steps to protect organizational data from accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure; assist with security and access management. Comply with the bank’s AML/CFT policies and procedures.
- Documentation and Procedures: Create and manage documentation, policies, and procedures necessary to enforce standards, communicate best practices, define roles and responsibilities, and sustain ongoing operations. Define and promote effective documentation best practices internally and externally.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with related regulations, best practices, tools, trends, and new technologies. Participate in educational opportunities, read professional publications, maintain personal and professional networks, and participate in professional organizations. Use new knowledge and ideas to continuously improve operational efficiencies, procedures, and strategy.
- Team Player: Commit to a collaborative mindset and perform other duties as needed in support of the team.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in business, data management, information systems, related quantitative field, or equivalent experience and/or training. A minimum of 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, business process engineering, or equivalent demonstrated performance and expertise. A minimum of 3 years in a managerial role leading technical teams.
- Strong understanding of data management principles, data governance practices, and data modeling concepts.
- Proficient in SQL and experienced with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL), big data cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Warehouse).
- Familiarity with data integration and ETL tools (e.g., AWS DMS, SSIS, MuleSoft, Talend).
- Familiarity with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with data catalog and lineage software is a plus (Talend, Alation, Informatica, etc).
- Experience in fintech or a financial institution is a significant advantage.
