Starting Pay: $18.00 an hour, or higher, depending upon prior training and experience.
Job Brief:
The Non-Destructive Testing Assistant - an entry-level technician who will assist certified Level I, II, and III technicians in testing the safety of structures, vehicles, vessels, or related equipment using radiography (x-ray), ultrasound, dye penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, or other non-destructive test methods. This position plays a key role in ensuring customer needs are met by providing inspections at fabrication and manufacturing facilities, power plants, oil and gas refineries, petrochemical plants, wind turbine farms, and other industrial environments.
Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must pass Background Check, Physical, and Drug Screening.
  • Ability to prove US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
  • Must have a TWIC or able to obtain.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist certified Level I, II, and III NDT technicians with:
    • Examination of pressure retaining, structural components and welds in piping, vessels, tanks, trains, bridges, dams, and pipelines, using NDT techniques.
    • Conduct liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with dyes, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer.
    • Conduct magnetic particle tests to locate surface cracks and imperfections using magnetizing and electromagnetic inspection equipment.
    • Produce images of objects on film, using radiographic techniques.
    • Asses radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact.
    • Ultrasonically scan parts and welds for the presence of imperfections within objects and map them using ultrasonic measurements.
    • Use electromagnetic (eddy current) and ultrasonic techniques to examine tubes and acquire examination data for evaluation.
    • Preparation of reports on NDT results.
    • Documentation of NDT methods, processes, or results.
  • Obtain work experience from Level I, II, and III NDT technicians in how to:
    • Select, calibrate, or operate equipment used in NDT of products or materials.
    • Identify defects in solid materials, using ultrasonic testing techniques.
    • Interpret the results of all methods of non-destructive testing (NDT), such as visual, electromagnetic, leak, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, ultrasonic, testing.
    • Supervise or direct the work of NDT trainees or staff.
    • Visually examine materials, structures, or components for signs of corrosion, metal fatigue, cracks, or other flaws, using tools and equipment such as endoscopes, closed-circuit television systems, and fiber optics.
    • Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
  • Other duties as required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Candidates must be able to climb a 300-foot tower multiple times per day.
  • Candidates must be able to walk across the hub and, in the event of an emergency, repel off.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights of up to 300+ feet.
  • Must meet specific weight requirements of tower ladders under OSHA and/or industry standards of 250 to 300 lbs. max, including personal protective equipment (approx. 30 - 35 lbs.).
  • Must be comfortable working in confined space(s).
  • Must be able to see and move throughout site to resolve work problems and facilitate processes; repetitive motion activities may be involved.
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting.
  • Frequent climbing, walking, and standing, and bending.
  • Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Successful completion of climb test(s) and tower rescue training.
