Summary
Global Kids (GK) is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and mobilizing youth to become proactive global citizens who are actively engaged in the world and well-prepared for their future endeavors. Our After-school counselors are Group Leaders who play a pivotal role in fostering a secure, nurturing, and enriching environment for young individuals beyond regular school hours. Their primary objective is to ensure the overall well-being, growth, and active participation of the students under their care. We are seeking candidates who possess a steadfast commitment to youth development, global education, and social action. If you are passionate about making a difference and are interested in contributing to GK's community programs, which are situated within New York City Public Middle and Elementary Schools and receive support through the DYCD SONYC Initiative, we encourage you to apply. Interested candidates MUST be available from 2 pm to 6 pm on weekdays.
All positions will be in person. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
Afterschool Counselor Responsibilities include:
- Create and facilitate interactive, experiential workshops and activities for middle school students or elementary school youths (Depending on your placement).
- Serve as a positive, encouraging & affirming mentor for GK middle school youth or elementary school youths.
- Help with group management, including supporting positive group interactions, monitoring group transitions between activities, and ensuring safety during check-in, dismissal, and program hours.
- Assist with supervising students, including ensuring that students are never left on their own.
- Assist with chaperoning trips.
- Help with collecting program documents and attendance.
- Follow all guidelines and protocols outlined by Global Kids, the Department of Education, Youth and Community Development, and the Department of Health.
- Available to work 20-25 hours Monday-Fridays and some weekends if needed.
- A High School diploma is required. Currently attending college preferred.
- Experience working with youth using interactive learning strategies.
- Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist practices
- Knowledge of or passion for global issues, political science, history, education, and social activism.
- Good facilitation, consensus-building, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, initiative, creativity, and willingness to learn
- Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
- International experience is a plus.
- Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Spanish or Haitian Creole)

Hours/Wages/Benefits: The salary is $15-$21 an hour. GK staff can also access retail discounts through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
