OverviewMedical Assistant, Mother-BabyFull Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day ShiftAt Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, our women’s services unit is comprised of labor and delivery, postpartum and nursery. We work with skilled and experienced obstetricians/gynecologists to deliver more high-risk babies than any other facility in the area. By partnering with the Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, we aid in improving pregnancy outcomes for high-risk mothers especially those 35 years or older, with multiples, pregnancy complications, history of birth defects, and medical problems such as diabetes or hypertension.Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center has earned the “BEST for Babies” award from the Tennessee Hospital Association and the Tennessee Department of Health. The award celebrates 18 hospitals across the state for their efforts to reduce infant deaths and improve the health of Tennessee’s newborns.Women’s Services is located on the sixth floor of the hospital. The department is a locked unit for the safety and privacy of our laboring patients.6 North houses 32 beds that make up the post-partum and gynecological department. This area serves newborns, obstetrical and gynecological patients. Our labor and delivery department is a 12-bed unit, with two holding and post-anesthesia care rooms, three operating suites, a nursery stabilization area, and an additional five triage rooms. 6 West is home to an additional 12 rooms set up to provide care during a patient’s pregnancy or for labor and delivery if needed.Our staff of Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides and Unit Secretaries make up our wonderful team. We average about 250 deliveries per month. As an RN in our labor and delivery unit, you will perform a variety of tasks such as providing care for patients utilizing fetal and maternal monitoring equipment, managing the patient's pain including epidural and patient-controlled analgesia administration, assist physician during delivery, treatment, examination and surgical procedures, as well as providing patient and family education on labor, pain and newborn care. Because many of our moms are high risk, our ideal RN candidate will need to have excellent critical thinking skills as well as outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.As an organization, we want to grow our employees by promoting a culture of excellence and professionalism. If you are ready to start the satisfying journey as a Labor & Delivery nurse, then come work with us!Position Summary:This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the clinic/department.Jennifer Gordon || || 865-374-8107ResponsibilitiesPrepares and maintains patient charts to include insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory and radiology reports, tracks and requests patient records, slides and films; documents as necessary in the charts.Schedules and coordinates appointments, scans and tests; confirms appointments; notifies appropriate departments, in writing, of daily and weekly patient schedules.Receives all telephone calls coming into the office; assists patients, physicians and others with patient-related matters; relays diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion; conducts follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and "no-shows".Assists physician with procedures such as wound care.Performs BP, TPR and weight on each patient; responsible for alerting physician of abnormalities.Performs medical history on each patient prior to being seen by physician.Prepares monthly statistical data to be reported to Administrator.Maintains medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in clerical area.Performs pre-sterilization processing for minor equipment utilized. Delivers/retrieves minor equipment from Sterile Processing when needed.Monitors patient insurance for hospital admission pre-certification requirements; assists with reimbursement issues as needed.Completes forms required for continuity of care, such as patient insurance, home health and hospice.Precertifies insurance coverage for procedures and treatments ordered by the physician.Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.QualificationsMinimum Education:None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
