Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance operations for our heavy equipment shop and on-road heavy truck fleet within our civil construction division. This role requires a proactive leader with a deep understanding of heavy equipment, trucks, and the ability to build, lead, and mentor a high-performing maintenance team.
A Day in the Life
OFF-ROAD FLEET
  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and team atmosphere
  • Support and manage shop and field mechanics
  • Manage Heavy equipment repair and maintenance schedule
  • Manage external vendor repairs
  • Assign work as needed and manage mechanics in the region
  • Manage, maintain, and order parts and supplies inventory items at the facility
  • Order and manage parts required for repairs supporting field and shop mechanics
  • Utilize fleet management software assigning and managing workorders
  • Ensure required information is being entered into the HCSS E360 on all workorders
  • Communicate and prioritize needs with field supervisor through the repair process
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the equipment shop
ON-ROAD FLEET
  • Coordinate and communicate with drivers and dispatch teams on all repairs to limit operation disruption.
  • Manage Heavy truck repair and maintenance schedule
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and other legal requirements for on-road fleet.
  • Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle performance and maintenance needs.
LOGISTICS
  • Act as the on-site logistic team leader working in conjunction with the Senior logistics manager
  • Facilitate, manage, and maintain equipment storage yard
  • Facilitate personnel for the unloading and loading of loads
  • Work with logistics team on outgoing and incoming loads
FACILITY
  • Work in conjunction with the facilities manager to facilitate repairs on the property
  • Oversee mechanical issues, facility related
  • Ensure compliance and proper function of the on-site fuel island
  • Oversee subcontractors for landscaping, HVAC, alarm systems, etc.
What You'll Need
  • Previous experience managing teams in the construction industry.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); five or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Previous experience working in a construction, trucking, logistics, dispatch, or shop environment.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to work with all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and other business associates. Must clearly communicate directions and information.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work onsite in a small team environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask without compromising accuracy is critical.
  • Ability to respond to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.
  • Working knowledge of Viewpoint Visa and HCSS software suite.
  • Working knowledge of a Caterpillar fleet.
  • Familiar with heavy equipment demolition tools.
  • Familiar with Deep foundation materials, equipment, and tooling.
  • Familiar with DOT Compliance in a heavy truck fleet.
  • Experience working as a Heavy Equipment or heavy truck fleet mechanic.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • Provides work instruction to mechanics, truck drivers, and yard personnel.
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Hire, train, develop and review all direct reports. Takes disciplinary action as necessary, on a timely basis, and in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensures new hires are properly trained and employees are cross trained within the department to support continuous employee development.
Other
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check is required.
  • Requires 8 to 10-hour hour workdays, Monday - Friday.

The employee occasionally may encounter high noise levels, but hearing protection is provided/required.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employees may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Most often a shop/equipment yard environment, however jobsite travel is required. Employee frequently works alone and with others. Frequently exposed to variable work environments, including unique conditions outside a typical office environment. Occasionally exposed to moving machinery, loud noises, odors, dust, pressurized equipment. Occasionally exposed to electrical hazards. May be exposed to environmental conditions, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat.
