Job Title: Executive Director of the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission

Location: Fairbanks, Alaska 99701

Pay Range: Regular, Full Time. $80,000 a year, 13 days of PTO, 1 Week of Subsistence Harvest PTO, $300 a month Health Stipend. (Benefits will change once hired and establish Health Insurance Plans)

Job Summary: The Executive Director serves to uphold and implement the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission Constitution and Bylaws and directs all efforts to utilize the powers granted by the member Tribal Governments to achieve the purposes as set forth. Under the direction of member Tribal Governments, Executive Council and the Chair, the Executive Director organizes and mobilizes efforts to ensure recognition of Tribal responsibility and authority to exercise sovereign tribal rights as stewards to traditional territories and resources. The Executive Director works to achieve sustainable stewardship in perpetuity, for the health and well-being of our tribal members, our future generations, and all Alaskans and Canadians who rely upon the health of the Fish. The Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day operations, administration, and management of the Fish Commission to include strategic planning, policy development, budget management, staff management and supervision, oversight of work plans and long-term management plans.

Essential Functions: The list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents. Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

Representative Duties:

  1. Coordinates annual YRITFC meetings, and regular Executive Council meetings, including full participation and membership by all Tribal Governments within the Yukon River Watershed.
  2. Communicates, informs and educates the YRITFC Commissioners and Tribes on relevant Yukon River Fisheries issues throughout the year.
  3. Coordinates Tribal Representation and participation in relevant Yukon River Fisheries management meetings.
  4. When necessary, represents the Commission with partners, and State and Federal managers on behalf of the Commission, seeking understanding and support from partners and the public.
  5. Develops an annual fishery management plan, to include restoration, under the direct guidance of the Commissioners and communicates the plan to relevant agencies, commissions, and groups.
  6. Experience with navigating and working knowledge of State of Alaska and federal regulations, regulatory processes, and applicable laws.
  7. Experience in fisheries management, and/or science, research development and implementation.
  8. Experience in obtaining seed and research funding and grant management.
  9. Demonstrated ability to perform job with minimal supervision, organize, and prioritize work to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.

Additionally, the preferred candidate will be:

  • An enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe.

Supervision: The position will supervise all YRITFC staff.

Physical Demands: Incumbent may be sitting long periods of time, looking at the computer screen for extended periods, and repetitive motion due to typing. Job incumbent may be required at times to lift and carry up to fifty pounds. Incumbent must be able to work accurately and efficiently in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.

Summation: The job has high contact with people, which makes communication and interpersonal skills important. Confidentiality required.
