HVAC Trainer
Purpose:
- Continental Tide has an immediate need for a HVAC Instructor / Training Specialist who will be a key support to our Engineering Services. The location of this position is in Philadelphia, PA.
Job Description:
- Continental Tide is seeking an experienced HVAC Instructor to support our Philadelphia Office. The successful candidate will prepare and instruct students in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (AC&R) Systems at NSWCPD’s Auxiliary Systems Test Facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the operation, maintenance, and testing of naval air conditioning and refrigeration systems, subsystems, equipment, and components.
- Assess training needs.
- Design, develop, and revise complex interactive, instructor-led courses of a technical nature.
- Draft and finalize training documentation.
- Prepare instructional materials from technical source data (Technical Manuals, PMS Documentation, etc.…).
- Present training materials to a large audience.
- Evaluate training requirements for the system.
- Create training objectives and goals.
- Conduct customized training classes.
- Develop training plans and the associated curricula.
- Identify the resources necessary to implement the plan and ensure that training is conducted in accordance with the plan.
- Perform research and analysis.
- Provide handouts and facilitate discussion.
- Interface with SME regarding training development.
- Determines overall effectiveness of programs and training by listening to feedback and making improvements as necessary.
Required Experience:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in training or three (3) years of military experience in curriculum development and instruction.
- Minimum of Three (3) years’ experience planning and managing training development for large programs, developing formal classroom courses, workshops, training plans, courses and material of a technical nature.
- Applicants must possess the ability to apply knowledge of AC&R theory, pipefitting, electrical, mechanical layouts, commercial chiller and HVAC controls aboard U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, MSC and commercial vessels.
- Ability to read and interpret system and equipment drawings.
- Must be able to plan and execute work assignments from supervisors, document work by completing paperwork on each job and maintain files and reports, as well as possess a good working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, NFPA, EPA regulations, Navy specifications and applicable HVAC/R installation standards.
- Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, high level of critical thinking/reading comprehension.
Additional Requirements:
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and execute multiple assigned tasks.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Security Requirements:
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and Naval installations.
- Due to export control regulations, this role is open to U.S. citizens only.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional Travel- up t0 10% within and outside of the continental United States.
- If a position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. (More information regarding REAL ID can be found: ( )
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
