Hennepin Healthcare is hiring a Medical Assistant for our Kidney Center Clinic in downtown Minneapolis. This role work day shift (4 or 5 days/week, 8 hour shifts). This benefit-eligible role is union represented and primarily works day shift. Opportunities for tuition reimbursement and advancement. /**This opening is currently set to work Monday-Friday day hours but may expand to include evenings and weekends as we grow./Hennepin Healthcare's AFSCME pay range(s): - Medical Assistants: $22.39-$28.88 Offers are based on prior experience in the respective roles and/or relevant patient-facing roles (non-administrative).A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external MA or LPN candidates (current employees and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). The sign-on bonus amount is $1,500 for uncertified Medical Assistants and $3,000 for Medical Assistants certified/registered through the AAMA, AMT, or NHA._SUMMARY_**Under the direction, delegation and supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), Manager/ Clinic Nurse Supervisor, charge nurse and/or their delegates, the Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of medical and clinic support functions. The Medical Assistant assists with indirect and direct patient care and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by established Policies, Procedures and Clinical Protocols._RESPONSIBILITIES_Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other providers including: administer medications, injections, and immunizations, spirometry, tympanometry, apply minor dressings and splints, connect patients to portable monitors e.g. pulse oximetry, nebulization, glucose monitoring, and urethral catheterization and other clinical duties as delegated within the Medical Assistant scope of practiceSet up for and provide direct assistance to physicians and other licensed care providers with medical examinations and procedures including: colposcopy, flex sigmoidoscopy, minor surgeryPerform specimen collection including: blood draws, sputum samples and urine samples.Perform hearing and vision screens and developmental testingReview patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enter information into the patient medical recordPerform basic patient care activities including: place patients in rooms, take and chart vital signsPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS/Minimum Qualifications:/Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant school (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) that includes a clinical externship or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, as evidenced through educational transcripts/Preferred Qualifications:/Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health recordProficient with Microsoft Office Softwaremonths related experience or HHS externshipPossesses active certification by the AAMA or active registration by the AMT at hireBilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/Ability to perform specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HHS standardsKnowledge of medical terminologyAbility to effectively interview patients and collect information required to obtain medical history and to accurately register and/or schedule patientsAbility to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient populationAbility to prioritize, organize, and communicate with multidisciplinary staffBasic computer knowledgeAbility to read and follow written instructions; understand and communicate verbal and written informationAbility to perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations as well as HHS standards related to quality, accuracy, productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service, etc/License/Certifications:/**Credentialed or Registered through AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within thirteen (13) months of employmentMust have and maintain valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification or the ability to obtain this within the first three months of employmentAmbulatory Care Float Pool: Medical Assistant positions in the float pool require driving to off campus clinics.
