Overview
TRC is seeking a Mid-Level Civil or Environmental Engineer to support our growing Engineering, Construction & Remediation practice in New England managed from our Lowell, MA headquarters.
This individual may report to our Lowell office or any other TRC office in MA.
The successful candidate will have experience in the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure and/or remedial systems. The candidate will also be engaged in their career via continuing education, reading technical journals, trade journals, attending vendor/supplier/regulatory webinars, etc. The successful candidate will help manage projects, help senior leadership develop and expand TRC's Engineering practice in New England, and will provide mentorship and development to staff engineers to facilitate work across technical disciplines.
TRC's Lowell office provides access to a broad spectrum of multi-disciplinary professional experiences in an office that succeeds on teamwork, development, and growth.
Responsibilities
- Work with Senior Engineers / Project Managers to scope, cost, plan, and execute civil and environmental engineering projects throughout the Northeast region.
- Assist in the development of field work plans and manage field work execution, coordinate with subcontractors and clients.
- Delegate work effectively to junior staff to meet project goals.
- Assist senior engineers with shepherding the training and development of emerging staff talent through collaboration, coaching, and varied and diverse work assignments.
- Evaluate, design and implement infrastructure and remediation projects, including developing rationales, preparing calculations, technical documents, plans, specifications and cost estimates.
- Write and review technical documents, reports and designs, ensuring consistent delivery of materials.
- Interpret geological, hydrogeological, and chemical data from contaminated sites and collaborate with TRC’s geologists and hydrogeologists to establish conceptual site models.
- Assist with the preparation of permit applications.
- Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Control of deliverables pertaining to projects and tasks self-managed, as well as projects and tasks managed by others, in accordance with TRC’s procedures.
- Qualified candidates must be comfortable with periodic regional travel and client support.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- EIT is required, PE license (Civil or Environmental) in MA, NH, VT or RI is a plus.
- 3-5 years of water, wastewater, stormwater or remediation engineering experience in a consulting/engineering firm environment, with progressive responsibilities in task management and design.
- Experience with design support, cost estimating, procurement (contracting, requests for proposals, and bid evaluations/selections).
- Experience with construction oversight, subcontractor oversight, drilling, soil classification, multi-media sampling, well installations, and remediation systems.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts environmental regulations and technical guidance.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual renewal.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD or other water/stormwater modeling software.
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Maintain a billable utilization target and perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget for the scope of work and schedule with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented with troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle multiple project commitments at one time.
- Work well with dynamic project teams and junior staff.
- Have strong communications skills, both written and oral.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S., M.Eng., or PhD. degree with Civil or Environmental Engineering focus.
- LSP, LEP, LSRP a plus.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with Northeast state and Federal environmental regulations.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
