Job Summary

The AVP of Operations will oversee service lines located in the facility. The AVP of Operations is an experienced operational leader and will be responsible for leading and coordinating transformational north region/local Jefferson strategies and initiatives aligned with enterprise and regional operational improvements. The AVP assists the senior executives and VP of Campus Operations within the North region and larger TJUH enterprise with the implementation and execution of the annual operating plan and budget while serving as both a resource and leader to achieve best practice results in key performance indicators for quality, safety, service, people, growth, and financial outcomes. The AVP acts as an internal consultant, responding quickly to direction from the senior executives to assess operations, identify best practices, and redesign work systems and processes to achieve higher levels of performance. This often includes leading a multidisciplinary performance excellence improvement team, engaging stakeholders in process redesign, and designing systems to assure high reliability and sustainability.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Provides financial analysis including ROI and other key metrics for projects/programs/services.
  • Oversees execution of operating plan projects and strategic initiatives to achieve regional/divisional goals.
  • Project Excellence/Leadership includes identifying opportunities; defining and financially justifying projects/programs; allocating resources; launching project teams; utilizing project management and leadership principles to manage team activities; tracking project status and results; anticipating and removing barriers; and developing team members.
  • Leads and supports operational improvement efforts to drive operational efficiency and clinical programmatic growth.
  • Plans, manages, evaluates, and controls the financial performance and standards of excellence to maintain high quality services to achieve both the divisional and regional goals and objectives set forth.
  • Responsible for the implementation of various projects in collaboration with senior executives to ensure efficiency and quality performance indicators are met.
  • Provides leadership for the development of strategies while ensuring the successful implementation of tactical elements of improved patient satisfaction, enhanced quality of care, strengthen the revenue cycle, and increase operational effectiveness.
  • Plans, develops, and executes strategic and comprehensive business development and marketing initiatives to support the objectives and goals, with specific focus on revenue enhancement, and additional market share growth through strategic relationships.
  • Collaborates with Business Development, Finance, and Marketing, to develop and implement these growth initiatives, as needed.
  • Assures that patient care objectives are met. Through collaboration, develops, allocates, and administers the budget as necessary for accomplishment of established objectives and programs. Is responsible for the department's mission statement, strategic plans, resource allocation and operational plans and policies.
  • Ensures that all Federal, State, local and accreditation standards are met and maintained. Promotes and maintains own professional development.

  • Regulatory: Must be knowledgeable of National legislation, Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations, State Board practices, JCAHO mandates, and hospital privileging/credentialing processes.
  • Operational:
    • Manages the project scope, resource requirements, political barriers, and the potential ROI while prioritizing projects accordingly.
    • Engages other Jefferson leaders formally to accelerate transformational initiatives aligned with enterprise/North region operational improvement initiatives. Maintains relationships with these individuals and develops them accordingly.
    • Hires, supervises, coaches, develops, and recognizes leadership staff within the scope of respective departmental oversight.
    • Develops and deploys robust, executive-oriented analytics tools using Qlik, Epic, and other benchmarking tools to track progress.
    • Participates in divisional committees/teams to help develop and disseminate best practices. Engages staff and management in service and operations improvement projects.
    • Communicates and shares data, reports, and best practices to increase awareness, buy-in, and recognition of improvement efforts.

Education:

Master’s Degree required (MBA, MPH, or equivalent) in health administration or related field.

AND

Experience:

  • (10) years minimum in a supervisory and/or leadership experience role preferably in a complex healthcare facility with expertise in operations, finance, project management, performance improvement.
  • Possesses administrative, managerial experience, financial, budgetary control and technical knowledge necessary to provide operational oversight to run effective and efficient departments.
  • Experience in non-profit preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive improvement projects and organizational results.
  • Excellent relationship-building and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to develop plans, manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
