Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer holds the top financial position in the organization. The CFO is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, managing, and running of all the financial activities of the company, including business planning, budgeting, and forecasting. This position reports to the President.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Strategy, Planning, and Management:

  • Act as Chief Financial Officer and strategic business partner to senior executive leadership team.
  • Provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of the organization.
  • Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.
  • Manages accounting procedures.
  • Monitor the progress of the company in meeting its strategic goals.
  • Oversee the formulation of the annual budget and work closely with the Executive Vice President of Operations to implement.
  • Develop a system of performance metrics that support the company’s strategic direction.
  • Participate in the functions and decisions of the executive management team.
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization.


Financial, Analysis, Budgeting, and Forecasting:

  • Prepare and present monthly financial budget including monthly profit and loss by division.
  • Prepare forecast vs budget by division.
  • Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operation budget.
  • Maintain outstanding banking relationships.
  • Arrange for additional financing or investment options based on the anticipated cash flow needs.
  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs.
  • Interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.


Risk Management:

  • Understand the current and potential risks to which the business is subjected.
  • Take steps to mitigate risks, including the use of control systems, shifting risk to other parties, and insurance coverage.
  • Report on risk issues to the President.
  • Ensure that the business complies with all regulatory and other legal requirements.
  • Monitor known legal issues involving the company and legal issues impacting the entire industry.
  • Review and act upon the findings and recommendations of internal and external auditors.
  • Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.


Cash Management:

  • Oversee weekly cash management and Accounts Payable Department.
  • Approve large payables, sign checks, authorize large wire payments, and ACH payments.
  • Supervise Accounts Receivable management and provide guidance relating to the collection process.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA or CFA preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in a senior financial managerial position.
  • Proven experience in financial management and strategic planning.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational responsibility.
  • Deltek/VantagePoint experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a professional services industry a plus.

Ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
