The Bachelor's S ocial Worker (BS W) will work with a team to identify and support individuals whose needs are not met by the traditional Public Safety response paradigm. This position addresses patterns of high utilization for clients who need considerable attention and resources that fall under the People In Need of Support (PINS) program , or are individuals with behavioral health or social support needs. BSW e ngagements will focus on addressing barriers to consistent care, allocating resources, and treatment that results in a proactive continuum of care . The successful candidate will perform biopsychosocial and crisis assessments, conduct home-visits at the residences of their clients, engage in short term intervention by determining the types of referrals and services indicated , coordinate the provision of referrals and services, and provide on-scene crisis r esponse.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of harm reduction, a focus on empowering individual agency and choice, and experience in case management, crisis intervention, victim support, and mental/behavioral health support. The Bachelor's Social Worker will receive referrals from Public Safety and City government staff and collaborate directly with social service providers and other programs in the Office of Community Health & Safety . Supervision will be provided by the People In Need of Support (PINS) Team Lead and the Social Work Manager to develop client support plans and to foster personal and professional growth . The role of B SWs on-scene will be to provide service provider referrals to those in crisis, conduct ongoing assessments, and ensure that best practices are adhered to. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.Written: None required for this position.Performance: None required for this position.Medical: None required for this position.POSITION DUTIESAdheres to and practices OCHS and Continuum of Support values and principles, with a focus on harm reduction-based, person-first, crisis and trauma-informed principles.Follows National Association of Social Workers' code of ethics.Assesses the biopsychosocial status of all clients including people who are survivors, witnesses, and co-victims of crime to determine the types of referrals and services necessary.Interacts and collaborates with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police in relation to CIT cases .Conducts home visits in partnership with Fire and EMS liaisons.Holds a regular caseload of 20-30 cases.Works directly with first responders , particularly from the Bureaus of Fire and EMS to visit people who are high utilizers of 911-dispatched services to identify providers, partners, and programs that can provide a more robust continuum of support.Coordinates care with service providers, senior staff, and first responders, when appropriate .Provides behavioral health support, crisis stabilization, and service referrals, promoting client autonomy and choice.Participates in side-by-side multidisciplinary training to ensure compliance with Continuum of Support best practices and Public Safety personnel practices.Facilitates referrals to internal resources and programs, including the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program.Collaborates with medicine teams citywide to coordinate referrals and care.Records detailed documentation of client interactions and referrals in identified database system .Acts as a liaison between community members, first responders, and community-based agencies.Communicates with individuals and providers in person, and via phone, email, letters, and faxes to assess concerns and determine needs.Conducts ongoing communication with senior staff regarding workload, client support plans, and other activities.Attends Continuum of Support, People In Need of Support, Office of Community Health & Safety, task supervision meetings, and others as required .Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.Click here ( to view the full job description including knowledge, skills, and abilities and working conditions for this position.
