Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is passionate about providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers worldwide, powered by exceptional technology. This work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels - including streaming, linear, and theatrical - so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

The Media Player Engineering team mission is to design video streaming playback solutions in collaboration with encoding, packaging, and delivery teams to optimize the Disney technology stack for the best streaming experience possible on all devices.

Our team is seeking someone who can join the team as a senior software engineer for our HTML5 video player for Hulu. Your focus will be on collaborating with media playback teams on other platforms to ensure a consistent software architecture which delivers a best in class streaming experience for our viewers while providing a foundation for media playback innovation at Disney.

Responsibilities

1. Design and implement solutions for new features which integrate with various Disney media services/back-ends.
2. Design and implement solutions for Disney Media Player, Internal Tools and related dependent projects. This can be in the service of specific Product requirements or teams specific needs.
3. Collaboration and design for Disney Media Player. This can include requirements gathering, debugging, and integration help to support internal and external partners.
4. Research and development for Disney Media Player experiences, integration, and testing.
5. Participation in planning near and far term work as well as team agile ceremonies and meetings.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum:

1. 5+ years experience in software engineering
2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and / or equivalent work experience
3. 1 year experience working directly with HTML5 video playback (one or more of these technologies: MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, CMAF).
4. Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Proven track record at a senior software engineering level.
2. Experience and expertise deploying web applications in the Amazon Web Services environment.
3. Experience working with server side JavaScript in Node.js or Deno.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $145,400.00 to $195,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
