Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Candidate serves internal customers across Kuiper business programs that require their shipments to be transported by ocean. Key areas of responsibility include shipment pre-planning and execution, milestone visibility reporting, interfacing with and tracking performance of logistics service providers, improving standard operating procedures, developing solutions, and seeking the best service/value proposition for customers.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Understand requirements of internal customers in each business program, develop solutions accordingly, and plan and execute shipments (typically door-to-door) to achieve mission timelines.
  2. Intake ocean and intermodal projects to drive readiness initiatives and detailed execution.
  3. Assist in logistics service provider onboarding, engagement, and service enablement, and support operational plans.
  4. Lead implementation and process improvement, and securely manage ocean transportation processes.
  5. Own capacity planning tools and processes as required for ocean operations.
  6. Develop operational metrics to meet business requirements.
  7. Maintain operational visibility to all shipments in transit by tracking and tracing, communicate in-transit milestones to internal customers, and escalate issues to logistics service providers and/or management, as appropriate.
  8. Review ocean transport routes to ensure strategies align with the expected business program workflows and recommend new transport routes, as needed.
  9. Assist in negotiating ocean rates with logistics service providers.
  10. Determine key metrics for and measures of success for logistics service providers, collect data to assess key performance indicators (KPI)/service level agreement (SLA) adherence to contractual requirements, maintain a metrics dashboard, and ensure accurate milestone reporting.
  11. Based on metrics data collected, help conduct periodic logistics service provider performance reviews, and track logistics service provider correction of error actions.
  12. Influence logistics service provider investments in continuous improvement to reduce costs and risks.
  13. Manage claims for ocean transport-related cargo loss or damage.
  14. Seek opportunities for network optimization through consolidation of shipments, streamlining of processes, or creation of mechanisms.
  15. Exhibit a constant passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  16. Represent Kuiper Transportation on cross-functional initiatives.
  17. Have ability to travel (domestic/international) up to 10% of the time.
  18. Have ability to work an alternative schedule or perform work during non-standard hours as business needs require.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 5+ years of relevant experience in the multimodal transportation industry.
  2. 3+ years of experience specializing in ocean transportation, supply chain operations, intermodal, and/or logistics.
  3. 2+ years of experience managing ocean carriers and logistics service providers.
  4. 5+ years of driving process improvements experience.
  5. 3+ years of driving end-to-end delivery and communicating results to senior leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Have experience with ocean and intermodal transportation operations, creation of standard operating procedures, development of supplier on-boarding documents, inventory management, inbound/outbound, and warehousing.
  2. Be comfortable with ambiguity.
  3. Be curious to learn new skills and in depth about both technology and our customers concepts, and pushing your comfort zone.
  4. Be an effective multi-tasker who navigates a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with grace and efficiency.
  5. Have experience in global trade compliance, security, and supplier compliance auditing.
  6. Be knowledgeable about dangerous goods or have prior certification in 49CFR, IMDG, IATA regulations.
  7. Have CSCP or similar industry certification.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
