S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Civil Staff Engineer who is eager to expand their skillset utilizing design and engineering on a variety of projects by joining our team in Columbus, Ohio . This individual should have a background in civil or water resources projects and is interested in focusing their skills on design and engineering.

Your Day-to-Day:

As a Civil Staff Engineer , you'll play a vital role in designing and developing a wide range of projects with a particular focus on the evaluation and design of dams, landfills, reservoirs, storm water management, slope repairs, and erosion and sediment control.

Qualified candidates are expected to have experience with basic hydraulic and hydrologic analyses and the preparation of civil construction drawings. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to manage projects and oversee the preparation of project documents, including construction drawings, specifications, and reports within the context of S&ME's quality program.

Under the guidance of Professional Engineers, you'll engage in conceptual design, engineering analysis, and detailed calculations. Additional responsibilities include drawing/detail preparation, construction cost estimating, specification preparation and construction site inspections. You'll assist in proposal and report preparation, schedule and budget management, and communicate with internal and external clients. As your career develops, you'll have the opportunity to mentor junior staff, assess project risks, review project elements for completeness and accuracy, and determine design methodologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Engineer Intern designation in Ohio or another state with the ability to become an Ohio Professional Engineer within 1 year
  • A minimum of 3 year's experience in Water Resources/Civil Engineering
  • 1+ years as a project manager
  • Proven ability to execute technical aspects of a wide range of projects
  • Excellent business and technical writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with HydroCAD, HEC RAS, or similar hydrology and hydraulic analysis software
