Overview

AmTrust Financial Services, a fast-growing commercial insurance company, has a need for VP of Wheels (Commercial Auto/Trucking/Transportation) Claim. The successful candidate will lead a large team handling all aspects of bodily injury and property damage claims and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the business and best-in-class claims handling. Effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to prioritize and execute based on critical objectives, and the ability to coach and develop direct reports are critical to success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the development and performance of the Wheels Claim teams, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of liability claims of the highest complexity and/or severity. Continuously develops talent by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and strengthen new skills.
  • Monitors the performance of their team, analyzing any problematic trends to identify root cause problems. Escalates issues or may recommend solutions to operational leadership. Advocates a culture committed to identifying process efficiencies to continuously improve how work is completed.
  • Demonstrates a passion and vision towards a highly effective and engaged employee culture. Selects top talent, delivers continuous coaching, recognizes employees to reinforce behaviors that ensure service excellence, and holds others accountable for the development of their teams.
  • Advocates claims customer service excellence by building an understanding of the customer experience that meets and exceeds stakeholders' expectations.
  • Identifying changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and developing training solutions to embed and sustain those practices in the organization.
  • Identifying changes in technology to support the execution of those practices and workflows, and working with IT counterparts in the design, build, and test of those changes.
  • Utilizes data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth.
  • Develops coverage acumen and proactively ensures team manages litigation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with material experience in Commercial Auto, Trucking, and all Transportation claim management.
  • Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced degree, including Juris Doctor (J.D.), preferred.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams located in multiple locations.
  • Directly manage and guide a team of Managers responsible for overseeing the handling of all aspects of claims.
  • Regularly participate in claims roundtable discussions focusing on claims issues surrounding coverage, liability, and assessment of damages.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
  • Leadership skills: ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
  • Persuades and influences people through superior written and oral communications; explains things clearly, challenges ideas effectively, and argues in favor of own point of view.
  • Possesses emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
  • Embraces changes; invites feedback related to performance and deals constructively with criticism.
