Description:
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for the supportive and administrative duties related to purchasing, logistics and inventory. The Purchasing Specialist will perform a range of duties in support of Management and staff which contribute to the successful performance of Procurement ensure successful business operations and maintain a focus on continuous improvement processes.
Responsibilities:

  • Creates request for quotation (RFQ); Meet with vendors and select vendors based on price, service and ability to meet production needs
  • Controls ordering of materials, monitor and determine inventory levels and work with vendors to ensure on time delivery
  • Processes purchase requisitions from internal departments and ensure proper approvals have been given prior to placing items on order
  • Liaises with freight forwarder, domestic and international suppliers regularly to monitor the status of shipment and ensure materials arrive on time
  • Identifies and communicates issues arising from the supply of materials and services with both the vendor and internal material team
  • Works with team members to identify instances of damaged shipments, including addressing and following up with suppliers, insurance companies and field inspectors to close the claim
  • Monitors, evaluates, and analyze vendor performance to ensure quality and delivery requirements are met
  • Manages supplier relationships and update management on any issues with vendors
  • Manages, maintains and, update Material Requirement Planning (MRP) data and investigate abnormal material usage
  • Monitors production schedules to assess future production needs; Balance available materials on order with ongoing production requirements
  • Participates in weekly planning and purchasing conference calls
  • Performs new material cost evaluation for management review
  • Takes on additional tasks when other departmental staff are absent
  • Ensures that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Canadian Solar Solution Code of Business Conduct
  • Supports ISO 9001 activities
  • Adheres to all environmental, health and safety rules and policies
  • Conducts other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree/Diploma in procurement field and/or related experience
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with particular attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key external stakeholders
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Office and enterprise ERP system and e-mail required
  • Experience using SAP is an asset
