Position Summary:

The Senior Applications Engineer reports directly to the Senior Director of Information Systems. They support the development and effective and efficient delivery of applications that support treatment planning and delivery at NYPC. The primary applications supported are used by Physics and Dosimetry, including RayStation, MIM, the High-Performance Computing environment, Eclipse, myQA/IBA applications, and other specialized applications. In addition, the Senior Applications Engineer will provide level 2 and 3 support for technical issues on the primary clinical Electronic Medical Record systems and imaging applications, including troubleshooting connectivity issues on Touchworks, Aria, Syngo.via. VNA, and other systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement changes to the in-scope applications.
  • Supervise the introduction of new systems when required by Physics, Dosimetry, and other medical stakeholders.
  • Support technical troubleshooting (level 2/3) for NYPC data exchanges, including inter-system, partners, labs, pharmacies, financial services, etc.
  • Serve as the primary NYPC IT contact for the Physics and Dosimetry IT vendors.
  • Supervise activities to customize and enhance existing Physics and Dosimetry applications.
  • Own the release schedule for NYPC’s Physics and Dosimetry applications.
  • Manage releases to minimize the risk of disruption to clinical operations.
  • Assist in project management by structuring, initiating and managing complex initiatives (clinical business and technical sides).
  • Stakeholder Management – ability to work with internal and external (partner) teams to ensure seamless data flow and operations.
  • Business Continuity – exposure to disaster recovery, business continuity, and security planning to enable risk management.
  • Compliance – understand HIPAA, data security, and other regulatory requirements and align system initiatives with these imperatives.
  • Maintain a comprehensive technical document library for NYPC’s Physics and Dosimetry applications.
  • Provide complete transparency of activities to IT and executive leadership.
  • Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's level degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of IT experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in healthcare.
  • Experience implementing Physics and Dosimetry applications, such as treatment planning and imaging.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors, including implementation teams.
  • Experience working in a programming environment, requiring coordination across multiple related initiatives.
  • Experience providing advanced technical support (Level 2/3) for complex applications delivered in a virtualized environment (VMWare).
  • Knowledge of Raystation and MIM strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Varian applications (Aria) required.
  • Knowledge of clinical interfaces, including HL7 and CCD messaging preferred.
  • Knowledge of Allscripts Touchworks, CarePort, and Follow my Health is strongly preferred.
