Objective:
To manage all aspects of Homeland Racquet Club (“HRC”) and to make each Homeland experience an enjoyable one. With the retirement of our long-time pro, and a relocation to a new facility, HRC looks forward to finding its new General Manager and Director of Tennis.
About Homeland Racquet Club:
Homeland Racquet Club is a vibrant “tennis-only” club that has thrived in the Baltimore community for 100 years . While the Club has enjoyed a few different locations, it has remained true to its tradition of strong tennis for all members, competitive teams, exceptional teaching and coaching, and impeccably well-maintained courts. Homeland players are consistently represented on Maryland and Mid-Atlantic USTA teams, many ultimately qualifying for national tournaments. First and foremost, HRC is a players club whose members have a passion for tennis.
About the Position:
The Homeland Racquet Club seeks a creative, energetic, and congenial leader who truly loves tennis. As HRC transitions to a new facility at the Suburban Club, this position offers the opportunity for professional development and growth for the right person with excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ample mentoring will be given by the long-standing, retiring pro and a supportive Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hiring and managing – Responsible for hiring and managing tennis staff (with Board approval), which might include head pro, assistant pro, and office staff and arranging work schedules within a designated budget. Also responsible for hiring and managing contractors necessary for opening/closing the courts and performing required maintenance throughout the season.
- Court Maintenance - Oversee court maintenance and staff, ensuring weekly court health which includes rolling, scraping, building up surfaces and line repair. Open/close the facility at beginning and end of season, including handling the winterizing process.
- Equipment maintenance – Maintain rollers and other court equipment. Store all court maintenance and court equipment.
- Events and Social Management – Organize and promote tennis and social events, tournaments, league play, and clinics. Collaborate with tennis members to create fun and innovative programming that encourages participation.
- Committee Obligations – Attend board meetings, providing input and suggestions regarding daily operations. Serve on HRC Tennis Committee.
- Online reservation system – Learn and manage the online reservation system, Chelsea, and provide training and guidance for members requiring assistance.
Qualifications:
- USPTA certified pro
- Experience with Har-Tru court maintenance
- Head pro experience and teaching experience
- A genuine passion for tennis and a strong understanding of the game
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
- Flexible schedule to accommodate events and activities
