The Weathering Lab Technician will be part of the Architectural & Decorative Coatings Technical Service team and will be based in Charlotte, NC, and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

We are seeking a Weathering Lab Technician to design, manage, and execute exterior weathering projects that will support BASF Dispersions and Additives. Reporting to the Technical Team Leader, this position will be responsible for maintaining the exposure test fence, rating boards, and executing projects. The Weathering Lab Technician prepares substrates by manually painting coatings prototypes on wood boards, cement fiberboard, aluminum, etc . Boards are mounted on an exposure rack outside for weathering, which requires up to 50% of time working outside . The test panels are retrieved at specified intervals and the Weathering Technician carefully evaluates each prototype and notes visible film failure. An automated robotic unit is also utilized for panel evaluation. This role will require reaching, crouching, lifting boards above shoulder height, and lifting objects up to 50lbs.
During your 8-hour shift as a Weathering Lab Tech, you will
Work with key stakeholders to design projects that will support BASF Dispersions and Additives
Prepare exposure boards to customer specific test methods
Develop expertise with the use and maintenance of weathering automation unit and integrated digital weathering tools
Collect, manage, and validate all weathering data for easy and meaningful retrieval in the future.
Prepare exposure reports to be shared with internal and external colleagues.
Assist the paint applications lab with paint production and testing support
Actively participate in all BASF ISO and safety practices and programs
Formula for Success:
Basic Qualifications
Associates Degree or certification in a chemistry related field and at least 1-2 years practical laboratory/quality control experience in a chemical related field OR High School Diploma/GED and 3+ years practical laboratory/quality control experience in a chemical related field
Basic computer skills in MS Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams and PowerPoint)
Willing and able to work a dayshift, indoors, outdoors, on your feet, have physical agility and lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in evaluating film failure of coatings and/or coatings performance in natural/accelerated testing
Experience painting architectural coatings by brush application
