The Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA) was established in 1978 as a membership organization for cardiothoracic surgery residency program directors. TSDA provides resources and networking opportunities for program directors and program coordinators, and supplemental curriculum materials and resources for general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residents.
TSDA is managed by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Position Overview:
Coordinate essential support services for the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA). Coordinate key TSDA operations and projects, including meeting and webinar planning and programming, producing and disseminating print and digital communications; and monitoring and reporting financial transactions.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide first level TSDA customer support to surgeons, program coordinators, vendors, and the public.
- Coordinate TSDA General Sessions, webinars, events, and other meetings.
- Under the supervision of the TSDA Executive Director, administer the TSDA In-Training Exam and support leadership groups responsible for exam development.
- Maintain databases, registration systems, and leadership rosters.
- Update website and social media content.
- Coordinate the production and dissemination of newsletters, blast email messages, and marketing materials.
- Manage mailing list license requests.
- Oversee outreach for resident and faculty data collection and coordinate implementation and tabulation of surveys and evaluations.
- Coordinate the TSDA leadership self-nomination process.
- Collaborate with the TSDA Executive Director and the STS Finance Department to help ensure accurate monthly revenue and expense reconciliations and support the annual audit.
- Oversee membership dues billing processes and revenue collection efforts.
- Act as primary staff contact for TSDA committees as assigned and assist with the creation of leadership meeting minutes and notes.
- Coordinate TSDA and TSRA awards and fellowships.
- Coordinate grant requests and record gift/donation entries; send related correspondence to donors.
Experience and Skills
Education and Experience
- A minimum of two years related work experience is required, preferably in an association environment or graduate medical education office.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is also considered.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and follow-through capabilities; attention to detail.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with website editing software and the administration of database systems.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, volunteer leaders, other organizations, and industry contacts; tact, diplomacy, and good judgment are essential.
- Positive attitude in the workplace.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily activities and schedules.
- Flexibility to staff the TSDA In-Training Exam two weekends in February, March or April.
- Ability to travel, as necessary, to support TSDA General Sessions (in January and May).
