General Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Forensic Services, the Competency Restoration Case Manager will assist in the restoration and treatment of individuals found incompetent to stand trial by local courts. The case manager will coordinate, link, monitor, and provide treatment to restore competency using training materials provided by HHS. The role will allow latitude for some independent judgement as it will oversee both the mental health treatment and forensic components of each individual’s case. Role will work closely with local courts to ensure requirements are met. Primary responsibilities include screening individuals for program eligibility, providing case management and linkage to mental health care, advocating within the criminal justice system regarding forensic needs, and facilitating program activities. Work may be conducted in both outpatient and jail-based settings.
The position involves frequent in-person contact with individuals, families, and service providers. The incumbent will work closely with clients and must be able to lift more than 45 pounds. The work environment requires sitting, walking, lifting, bending, and a full range of physical and mental activities typically associated with caregiving. The role will require a flexible schedule, and the agency will provide a vehicle to carry out required work.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s or master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, social services or related field required to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). A minimum of 6 months experience in behavioral health field is strongly desired. Knowledge of mental illness, intellectual disabilities, medications, resources and the criminal justice system is essential in performing a wide range of program activities. Professionalism in dealing with community officials and resources is a must, as well as displaying good oral and written communication skills. Computer skills are essential and must be able to work in stressful situations. Position requires travel within a seven-county area while on shift. A valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record to comply with CFLR is essential. If selected for this position, employee must give CFLR authorization to request copy of driving record as well as all required prescreens and background checks. Applicant must be able to satisfactorily complete required staff development training.
The Center for Life Resources prefers its applicants live in or are willing to move to the 7-county catchment area within 90 days of their hire date. Our catchment area includes the counties of Brown, Eastland, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba, Mills and McCulloch.
