Commercial Analyst

Talen Energy is currently seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our Commercial team in the Houston, TX office to support Power, Gas and Emissions trading.

Working with and supporting Talen’s Commercial team, this role will be responsible for assisting in the development of analyses and models based on complex operational, economic, pricing, forecasting, market, and accounting data to solve new and complex problems. Generally, support the Commercial team with daily analysis, trading decisions, and management reporting.

What will you own?

1. Support the PJM Commercial desk in daily market activity.
2. Responsible for management and tracking of P&L, position and identifying/reporting pertinent drivers.
3. Support development of trading strategies for Talen’s Commercial trading team.
4. Run production cost modeling for use in plant dispatch decisions.
5. Ability to identify, source, and disseminate fundamental data on an ongoing basis.
6. Support the Commercial team through the performance of ad hoc fundamental analysis and tool development.

What you have:

1. 3 years of experience in Energy Markets.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Finance or quantitative degree program.
3. Advanced degree is a plus and may substitute for experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Must have good verbal and written skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
2. Strong understanding of risk-modeling, risk-trading, P&L management.
3. Programming languages such as Python, VBA, SQL.
4. Powerflow or Production cost modeling such as Dayzer.
5. Experience with PJM Power, Natural Gas, Emissions, and Congestion.
