The Vice President (VP) of Hospital Operations and Chief Nursing Executive provides leadership and oversight for the operations of the hospital-based inpatient care units, perioperative services, and pharmacy services, and is responsible for professional development and growth for all nurses at Gillette Children’s. This VP is responsible for all nursing practice and leads initiatives to advance clinical practice through evidence-based practices and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

This VP plays a critical role in ensuring quality of care, patient safety, patient and family satisfaction, staff and provider engagement, and appropriate growth of revenue through various tactics. The position is strongly oriented towards establishing a consultative, proactive business partner role with the Executive Leadership Team. Ultimately, this VP ensures Gillette Children’s fulfills its mission, adheres to its core values, and strives for a world where every child can create their own story.

The VP reports directly to the Executive Vice President of Operations. This VP collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and is the dyad partner to the medical directors for Anesthesia, Surgical Services and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The dyad partners will work collaboratively to advance the work of the hospital care setting and support an interdisciplinary team approach to providing patient care. Additionally, this position helps to ensure that patient care is standardized yet personalized, meeting the needs and expectations of patients and families.

This Vice President is responsible for supervision of the following departments and the associated positions:

  • All Inpatient Units
  • Surgical Services, including Sterile Processing and Surgical Services Scheduling
  • Pre-and Post-operative Services
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Neurodiagnostics
  • Sleep Lab
  • Registered Dieticians
  • Nursing Administration

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in nursing (MSN), Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP), Healthcare Administration, Business, or related advanced degree. If the master’s degree is not in Nursing, a BSN in Nursing is required.
  • Current RN licensure.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a nurse executive leader.

  • Understands local and industry trends in clinical operations and revenue methodologies, patient care standards, and nursing education.
  • Ability to guide and utilize advanced analytics to drive and optimize clinical operations.

  • Strong conflict management skills.
  • Problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Experience in change-management and healthcare improvement.
  • Ability to balance stakeholders and influence positive and sustainable change.
  • Excellent financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and driving cost-efficiency.

Preferred

  • Experience in a pediatric hospital or pediatric clinic setting.
  • Master’s degree with a concentration in management or healthcare.
  • Nurse Executive certification (NEA-BC or CENP).
  • Experience leading or contributing to a successful Magnet designation or re-designation process, including developing and implementing Magnet standards and fostering a culture of nursing excellence.
