The Director of Compliance will be responsible for overseeing the JOIE USA compliance team providing regulatory leadership and ensuring product compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing oversight and leadership in the following areas:
Compliance and Regulatory Deliverables
• JPMA/Section 104 testing & documentation support
• Law Tag support
• Certificate of Compliance support
• CPSC contact/reporting (15b, etc.)
• Retailer portal documentation - if necessary
• In-house and Outside council interaction, communication/coordination
• Interaction with Outside Test Labs on interpretation issues
Product Development Process
• Standards/regulations monitoring and advisement on impact on product line.
• Safety/risk assessments
• Instruction manuals and labels review and development support
• Marketing Assets review.
• Establish test requirements and quality plans.
• Schedule testing
• ECN documentation/ECN approvals
Ongoing Production Support/Quality Initiatives
• Review and Support Customer Service inquiries/issues.
• Identify/Propose/Design Product Quality improvements.
• Review product returns.
• Conduct product audits from stock.
• Request factory level audits.
• Support Logistics and account services as necessary.
Company Representation/Participation
• ASTM Committees/standards chair
• JPMA Certification Committee
• ISO Technical Expert participation
Legal Representation
• Company authority on compliance and safety requirements.
• Spearhead communication with legal representatives and regulatory bodies as needed if safety issues arise.
• Represent company before regulatory agencies and at various conferences and events related to product safety.
• Provide strategic counsel to the company regarding pending legislative and regulatory developments that may affect the industry including real-time analysis regarding potential impacts on business.
• Monitor current global regulatory trends and activities to ensure the proper systems and procedures are implemented to maintain compliance within a changing regulatory landscape.
• Provide regulatory expertise to R&D and Engineering Teams (domestic and international) to facilitate the product design and development process.
Team Development & Management
• Provide incisive leadership to the Compliance team, including coaching and developing team members for success; identifying strengths and areas for improvement; helping to clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training, where applicable, in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
• Manage day-to-day responsibilities of assigned product design group to ensure that deadlines are met and on target.
• Review and elevate work of direct reports. Push for excellence with clear direction, feedback, and mentorship.
• Conduct performance discussions and approve paid time off requests of direct reports.
• Participate in the recruiting and hiring of talented engineers, designers, and technical staff.
• Oversee budget items and approvals for spending.
• Help to shape the design team's culture through mentorship, collaboration, feedback, and process iteration.
• Cultivate best practices to drive internal communication efficiencies.
• Build a cohesive team that works well together and as valued partners to internal customers.
General Management & Supervision
• Manage day-to-day responsibilities of assigned product design group to ensure that deadlines are met and on target.
• Review and elevate work of direct reports. Push for excellence with clear direction, feedback, and mentorship.

Requirements & Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge & Education
• Eight (8) to ten (10) relevant work experience in compliance environment, preferably in consumer or juvenile products industry.
• Five (5) years relevant work experience in a compliance environment, preferably in the consumer or juvenile products industry.
• Extensive experience in the consumer goods industry preferred.
• Experience in juvenile product standards (ASTM, CPSC, and NHTSA)
• Deep knowledge and understanding of statutory/regulatory requirements.
• Exceptional understanding of the product development process and common materials used in the manufacturing of juvenile products.
• Superior command of quality systems, data analysis, documentation practices, and processes.
• Knowledge of manufacturing: injection molding and plastics.
• BS degree in engineering required.
