JobTrain is on the lookout for a bilingual Employment Specialist who's passionate about breaking down barriers and empowering individuals to reach new heights of financial independence. Position Summary: At JobTrain, we're on a mission to propel individuals toward economic mobility. As an Employment Specialist I or Employment Specialist II, your role is pivotal in our quest to provide rapid employment services that transform lives. You'll be working at our North Fair Oaks career center, assessing clients, providing coaching, guidance, and training, and helping them overcome social or emotional barriers on their journey to economic success. This clientele is often more comfortable communicating in Spanish, so we are seeking an individual with bilingual proficiency in both Spanish and English.

Is this position remote/ hybrid / onsite? This is an onsite opportunity! Your presence at our community-based career center will directly impact the economic mobility of our clients.

What is the schedule? We believe in the power of collaboration, so the schedule will align with our center's operating hours.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Provide personalized guidance and connect clients with essential services and resources available at our career center. Monitor client progress closely, offer personal and career counseling, and refer them to additional support services within our network, all in the heart of our empowering center.
  • Training: Deliver one-on-one or group training sessions covering critical topics such as resume writing, mock interviews, and soft skills development, all within our North Fair Oaks career center.
  • Empathetic Connection: Build trust with clients, assessing their needs and addressing barriers to employment through meaningful, face-to-face interactions.
  • Individualized Service Plans: Collaborate with clients to craft tailored employment service plans, utilizing JobTrain's internal resources.
  • Client Caseload: Manage a caseload of job-seeking clients, offering support both before and after employment within our supportive environment.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with clients, employers, and community partners who share our vision of economic mobility.
  • Program Reporting: Using SalesForce and other programs, track your activity daily and deliver timely reports on outcomes and program deliverables.
  • Cold Calls: Reach out to employers and recruiters, leveraging the resources available at our career center.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside fellow employment specialists and JobTrain staff to enhance our processes and maximize our impact.
  • Employer Partnerships: Forge lasting relationships with local employers to discover ideal job opportunities for our clients.
  • Placement Support: Guide clients through the hiring process and closely monitor their job search activity and performance.
  • Post-Placement: Provide assistance to clients and employers with any post-placement issues or ongoing employment needs.
  • Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely compliance with reporting requirements, utilizing our center's resources.
  • Intake and Documentation: Conduct intake, assessment, and orientation for eligible clients and document their participation and progress according to grant requirements.
  • Data Reporting: Accurately report career development services data to donors and relevant parties, making the most of our center's technology.
  • Team Collaboration: Be an active participant in all-staff and program meetings, fostering an environment of economic mobility.
  • Other Duties: Embrace the opportunity to make a difference in any way needed and further our mission of economic mobility.

Qualifications: Experience:

  • Proven experience in workforce development, managing a caseload, or grant management.
  • Direct experience working with individuals facing barriers to employment, especially in the context of economic mobility.

Here at JobTrain we use a career ladder, to qualify, the candidate must also possess:

  • Employment Specialist I: 1 year of customer service experience
  • Employment Specialist II: 1 year of direct workforce development experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage a caseload, follow up efficiently, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Exceptional customer service and client rapport-building skills.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Spanish, especially in guiding conversations to achieve employment goals in person.
  • Proficiency in facilitating workshops and public speaking within our well-equipped center.
  • Critical thinking with a focus on empathy, compassion, equity, innovation, and inclusion, all within our supportive atmosphere.
  • Familiarity with grant-funded programs, databases, and reporting, making the most of our center's resources.
  • Comfort with various computer software and systems (e.g., MS Suite, SalesForce, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously, aligning with JobTrain's mission.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Additional Requirements:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Policy: Proof of full vaccination is required for employment, with reasonable accommodation available as per federal guidelines.
  • Local travel may be required up to 25% of the time, but most of your impactful work will happen in or around the career center.
  • Occasional work on nights and weekends may be needed, all in support of our economic mobility mission.
  • Physical demands include sitting and standing for extended periods, occasional lifting/moving of up to 25 pounds, and extended computer work, all within our center's empowering environment.

Compensation and Benefits

JobTrain offers a competitive salary, numerous health benefit plans and premium coverage of 90%, vision and dental, flex spending and HSA programs, 401K with a 5% match after joining, EAP and emergency services, vacation time, paid sick leave, retirement program employer match, long-term disability and life insurance. We also pay employees for 10 observed holidays including a whole week off between Christmas Eve and New Years Day.

Based on our career ladders the starting salary is as follows:

Employment Specialist I: $28.84

Employment Specialist II: $31
