Position Summary
This position will comprise of a combination of light outbound calls and clerical duties. For outbound calls: student employees will make outbound calls to other students to inform them about missing financial aid documents they need to turn into Financial Aid to complete their files and record conversation in the system for tracking. The student employee will also assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor or director. This position is funded with federal work-study dollars. Federal work study eligibility is based on the financial need of a student that applies for federal financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and student cost of attendance.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to stakeholders and constituents.
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in common office tasks.
  • Good phone etiquette skills.
  • No experience required. Training will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate student awarded federal work study funds in financial aid award package.
  • Must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College.
  • Must be enrolled and certified in at least six (6) hours (half time) for Fall and Spring. If attending summer semesters, you must be enrolled in at least three (3) hours (quarter time).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Must not have any prior institutional balance or blocks.
  • Students must have transportation to off-campus worksites.

Key Responsibilities
  • This includes calling the current or prospective students to provide guidance on the documentation that they need to complete their financial aid files or to apply for financial aid.
  • Properly document outbound call notes in the call tracking systems and follow up with students when appropriate.
  • Escalates call issues to the Work-study Coordinator for a resolution when a resolution is beyond the scope of the student worker.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records by following FERPA regulations and Dallas College policy and procedures, and carefully notated call conversation with student in call tracking system and avoid sharing conversation with unauthorized party.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the Financial Aid Office.
  • Must be mature, responsible, organized and be able to pay attention to details.
  • Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours.
Eligibility Requirements for Federal Work Study
To apply federal work-study position, student must
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Dallas College.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.
  • Demonstrate financial need based on current FAFSA application and cost of attendance information.
  • Pass a criminal background check if required**. Criminal background check is required for certain work study positions.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible program for at least six (6) credit hours in a plan leading to a degree or certification.
  • Have been awarded for other forms of financial aid such as Pell, federal subsidized direct loans awards, etc.
