Description
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Sales Director to lead our newly created National accounts and digital sales team. The Sales Director will lead a team of six and be responsible for developing and implementing strategic sales plans to achieve company objectives and be directly responsible for selling to Barnes & Noble and Indigo. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales to national accounts, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of exceeding sales targets. This position will be primarily responsible for Adult and Children’s Trade titles with some Academic oversight.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute comprehensive sales strategies to drive revenue growth and market share
- Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to achieve individual and team sales targets, providing ongoing training and development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, distributors, and partners to ensure long-term business growth
- Responsible for selling front and backlist titles to Barnes & Noble and Indigo
- Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities, emerging trends, and competitive landscape as well as provide input for acquisitions and author meetings
- Develop accurate sales forecasts, track performance metrics, manage coop spend and prepare regular reports for senior management
- Work closely with the editorial, marketing, publicity, finance and operations teams to align sales strategies with overall company goals
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform publishing teams and improve overall customer satisfaction
- Provide sales feedback to editorial on acquisition P&Ls and follow through on estimates
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 7-10 years of sales experience ideally with direct experience of sales to Barnes and Noble
- At least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Location
Candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area, and be able to work in person 2 days per week.
