This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of Spring 2025. Salary range is from $85,000 to $95,000, commensurate with experience.

This position will report to the CATE Executive Director.

Description:

Position Summary
This Associate Director will design, deliver, and assess professional learning opportunities for UIC instructors that couple evidence-based practices with the enabling of digital tools in support of innovative and effective pedagogy. The Associate Director will be responsible for advancing professional learning opportunities for UIC instructors by developing resources and implementing programs to support adoption of innovative and effective teaching practices that engage diverse learners in a variety of disciplines and in courses delivered via multiple modalities of instruction (e.g., online, on campus, hybrid). In addition, the Associate Director will consult with faculty on evidence-based teaching practices and organize and facilitate professional development programs such as on-campus workshops and online webinars.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage the development, implementation, and facilitation of programming, including on campus workshops and online webinars, that promotes teaching innovation and disseminates the use of educational technologies and accessible, engaging, learner-centered instructional practices across multiple modalities of instruction.
• Consult with individual instructors and/or colleges and departments, addressing instructional needs including pedagogical support for educational technologies in on campus, online, and hybrid courses.
• Draw upon current, evidence-based strategies in working with UIC instructors.
• Research and stay abreast of the educational technology and tools available to instructors within UIC’s learning management system.
• Engage with campus partners to support collaborations across campus units.
• Create content for CATE website resources such as teaching guides, which emphasize teaching equitably using educational technology.
• Work with CATE staff to regularly promote and communicate news, resources, and events.
• Act as a liaison for CATE by attending campus meetings and events.
• Provide input for execution of CATE mission and goals.
• Represent UIC and CATE by attending and presenting at regional, national, and international conferences.
• Proactively engage in professional development to stay up-to-date on issues relevant to teaching and educational technologies.
• Engage in scholarly work in collaboration with CATE staff, instructors, and other on campus and community partners.
• May have an opportunity to engage in undergraduate or graduate teaching.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• PhD or other terminal degree in an academic discipline.
• Demonstrated experience (1-2 years) in teaching and/or curriculum development at the university level.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver pedagogical training to instructors on using educational technologies.
• Knowledge of adult learning theories and research-based educational practices.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and pay attention to details.
• Ability to work independently and as a productive team member.

Preferred:

• Experience in academic administration in college or university setting.
• Ability to work hybrid schedule.
