Paralegal (International Trade)
Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a Paralegal to support its International Trade Group. This position will provide an advanced level of substantive legal support in international trade remedy (or similar) proceedings, organize, manage and update case files and coordinate administrative and court filings, assist in the management of complex administrative cases, assume responsibilities related to case preparation, document management and organization, legal and factual research, and train and supervise more junior colleagues.
Essential Functions
Case Management:
- Collaborate with lawyers to manage and organize cases from inception to conclusion.
- Maintain and update case files, including pleadings, case briefs, and exhibits.
- Prepare and manage case timelines, calendars, and deadlines to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with external parties, such as clients, vendors and opposing counsel, as necessary.
Submission Preparation:
- Assist attorneys in preparing submissions in antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings to relevant agencies (in particular the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission) in accordance with agency rules and practice, under supervision of lawyers.
- Observe rules regarding treatment of proprietary information in agency submissions.
Legal Research and Analysis:
- Conduct legal research using various online and offline resources (including Westlaw, LEXIS, and PACER) to gather relevant information.
- Summarize and present research findings to lawyers in a clear and concise manner.
- Stay current on relevant agency regulations and practices.
Document Management:
- Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and affidavits.
- Bluebook and cite check briefs and prepare table of authorities.
- Organize and maintain electronic document databases, ensuring confidentiality and easy retrieval of documents.
Supervision and Management:
- Train, manage and supervise junior members of the project team providing support on international trade matters.
Time Recording:
- Enter time spent on tasks on a daily basis into the firm's time entry system.
Nonessential Functions
- Provide back-up coverage for other paralegals as needed.
- Assist with pro bono and business development projects.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved school preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience required in an international trade remedy (or similar) practice.

Work Environment
- Available to work in the office 9:00 - 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
- Hybrid work arrangements may be available for this position.
- Non-Smoking environment.
- Available to work beyond regular hours as required by filing deadlines.
- Work under the direct supervision of lawyers.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
