Position Summary The Chief Financial Officer is based in Atlanta, Georgia and reports to the President. They are responsible for managing Southface's financial health and performance along with the accounting operations of the organization. The CFO will work closely with program and team leaders as an internal business advisor. The CFO must be educated in multiple state employment regulations, federal and state grant compliance and reporting regulations.

The ideal candidate will have prior nonprofit and grant accounting experience. They must be committed to establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems while managing up to the CEO. The CFO must maintain a professional demeanor, be emotionally intelligent and able to receive and give criticism as it pertains to the work.


Role Responsibilities

  • Reviews, interprets and ensures compliance with fiscal terms and conditions of grant and contract agreements.
  • Manages, plans and prepares operational and project budgets.
  • Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Senior Accountant, IT manager and Enterprise Applications Manager.
  • Oversees the work and acts as point of contact for the outsourced accounting firm.
  • Assists with the annual audit by preparing schedules and answering audit questions.
  • Develops financial forecast/projections and anticipates potential risks.
  • Distributes monthly program/project reports to Southface President and Directors.
  • Provides support as requested to the Southface Finance Committee.
  • Coordinates the preparation of the monthly financial reports for the Board of Directors.
  • timely responses to Southface staff concerning accounting and finance questions.
  • Partners with the Development Department to ensure grants management and supports the accounting and reporting models.
  • Oversees the travel approval requests in accordance with Southface travel guidelines and operational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative relationship with other departments, partners, vendors, etc.

Reports to: President, CEO Status: Exempt Salary: $135,000 Benefits

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • Flexible scheduling
  • 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting with a minimum of seven years of progressive experience is required. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Must have proven complex nonprofit financial leadership experience with federal and state grants and fit for a dynamic sustainability nonprofit organization.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working with federal and state grants and grant compliance is required.7 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting software is required.
  • Three years of supervisory leadership experience at a minimum.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce CRM.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative and positive team-building demeanor.
  • Ability to manage up.
