About This Role: The Director of Projects (DoP) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the successful execution and delivery of BoxPower's turnkey projects, from design through procurement and construction. The DoP will work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure projects meet BoxPower’s quality standards and are completed on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate will have a blend of power systems technical expertise, project management experience, and the ability to inspire and lead diverse teams. The DoP will also play a key role in shaping the project management culture and methodologies within the organization. This role requires a leader capable of overseeing multiple projects simultaneously by managing a team of Operations managers, acting as a PM for a few projects, strategic planning, resource management, risk mitigation, and fostering collaboration across various departments to drive successful project outcomes. The position requires 10+ years of experience in managing EPC projects, preferably in renewable energy, and leadership skills.

The DoP works closely with executive leadership to align project execution strategies with business objectives, driving performance improvements and fostering a culture of excellence. The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000 depending on experience and extended responsibilities. This is a hybrid or in-person role at BoxPower HQ in Grass Valley, CA with travel expectations to-site or Grass Valley HQ as required.

Direct Reports: Project Managers, Construction Manager, Supply Chain Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Strategy: Lead planning and execution of complex turnkey projects, aligning them with BoxPower’s business strategy, and providing strategic input on progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Drive Project Optimization and efficiency: Reduce costs, accelerate schedules, and optimize resource use, aiming for a minimum threshold of $10M/year revenue per project manager.
  • Ownership of Portfolio & Resource Management: Oversee BoxPower’s turnkey project portfolio, manage resources, execution schedules, and resolve conflicts to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the main point of contact for senior leadership across departments (engineering, sales, finance) and external partners (EPC, engineering and other subcontractor partners), ensuring clear communication and strategic partners relationship management.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Oversee project budgets, minimizing overruns, and manage cash flow and revenue forecasting by working closely with COO and CFO.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify risks and lead mitigation strategies while ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards throughout project lifecycle.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop the team, fostering a high-performance culture and continuous improvement.
  • Process Improvement: Ensure implementation of BoxPower workflow processes, analyze operation processes for improvement, and monitor KPIs to make data-driven decisions.
  • Supply Chain Management: Oversee supply chain, logistics, and procurement to ensure timely delivery and inventory management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership and Management: Experience leading large-scale projects with cross-functional teams; strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and motivate teams.
  • Project Management Expertise: Extensive experience with project management methodologies; proven track record of managing complex, multi-million-dollar projects.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and align project initiatives with organizational goals; strategic mindset with a focus on long-term planning and foresight.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making: Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex ideas to various stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Financial and Resource Management: Experience in project finance & accounting, project financial reporting, and resource management.
  • Technological Proficiency: Expertise with MS Suite of products including MS Projects. Strong understanding of technology solutions relevant to project management, as well as digital transformation initiatives.

Educational Background and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) is a plus.
  • Construction Management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with estimating software such as RS Means is a plus.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing large EPC projects for utilities, preferably in the renewable energy industry utilizing utility solar and energy storage systems, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
