Working with Us
Challenging. Meaningful. Life-changing. Those aren’t words that are usually associated with a job. But working at Bristol Myers Squibb is anything but usual. Here, uniquely interesting work happens every day, in every department. From optimizing a production line to the latest breakthroughs in cell therapy, this is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it. You’ll get the chance to grow and thrive through opportunities uncommon in scale and scope, alongside high-achieving teams rich in diversity. Take your career farther than you thought possible.

Bristol Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees with the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.

The Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center at BMS is one of the fundamental research and development engines delivering oncology therapeutics to patients. With a major focus of exploiting BMS’ expertise in protein degradation, we discover and develop therapies aimed at tumor intrinsic vulnerabilities and mechanisms of resistance, targeting protein classes that were previously deemed undruggable.

The Protein Homeostasis (PH) Group within the Oncogenesis TRC is focused on investigating and developing novel approaches to manipulate proteostatic processes for therapeutic benefit. We are seeking a skilled and passionate cell biologist to join us in this innovative research and in the advancement of new classes of oncology therapeutics to the clinic. The successful candidate will, working with a multidisciplinary team of discovery scientists, design and execute in vitro studies that further our understanding of how proteostatic mechanisms can be co-opted to exploit vulnerabilities of difficult-to-treat cancers.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Plan, execute, and report on molecular and cellular biology studies to characterize the mechanism of action of targeted protein degraders and other induced protein proximity agents.
  • Lead biology project(s) pursuing novel therapeutic targets and/or modes of targeted protein degradation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary working groups to develop and apply new methods and technologies to accelerate PH research.
  • Collaborate with other oncology discovery scientists to advance early concepts to robust IND-enabling packages.
  • Represent the PH biology group on project teams and at departmental meetings.
  • Supervise and mentor early career scientists within the PH group.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of academic and/or industry experience
  • Or Master’s Degree with 5+ years of academic and/or industry experience
  • Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with 2+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep expertise in contemporary molecular and cellular biology practices, techniques, and instrumentation.
  • Extensive experience in cell-based assay development, with a working knowledge of biochemical, biophysical, and ‘omics assays.
  • Demonstrable track record of rigorous and creative research, characterizing molecular mechanisms and/or cellular signaling pathways in mammalian systems.
  • Experience in the ubiquitin-proteasome system, protein quality control pathways, and/or cancer biology are a plus.
  • Proficiency with scientific data analysis tools and biological statistics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment, and with adaptability in accordance with research program needs.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $109,000 - $140,000 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
