NextCare is looking for an Area Medical Leader to support our Austin TX operations.
RPOSITION SUMMARY:
Provides both clinical and administrative services to NextCare clinics within the assigned service area.
Position requires a working understanding of state and federal regulatory laws that govern medical
practice; urgent care community standards of care and NextCare Best Practice standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide overall medical and clinical assistance to providers and staff of the assigned service area
2. Responsible, with the assistance and cooperation of Area Operations Manager and Provider
Scheduler, for the scheduling of all provider shifts
3. Responsible for the on-boarding, training, and quality oversight, excluding annual and new hire
chart audits, of all providers assigned to designated clinics
4. Responsible for recruitment and retention of high quality clinical providers
DETAILED ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works collaboratively with Senior Vice President Medical Operations, Area Operations Manager,
Clinical Managers, Clinical Providers, and staff
Provides guidance and leadership pursuant to the Provider educational resources within NextCare
Support and provides input into the development of standardized clinical policies and procedures
Serves as an organizational leader in the implementation of NextCare initiatives that directly or
indirectly impact the provider(s)
Provides feedback regarding the purchase of medical equipment, diagnostic service, on-site
pharmacy inventory, and other appropriate services.
Defines and analyzes clinical metrics, including documentation errors, coding trends, and the
Provider Dashboard
Defines desired outcomes, prepares the organization for change, if necessary, and manages the
momentum of that change
Evaluates clinical and financial ramifications of organizational decisions and provides input and
insight, assuring that NextCare is achieving the best possible outcome, cost effectively
Assists in the internal and external promotion of NextCare
Acts as a principal liaison and facilitator, with the involvement of the Senior Vice President Medical
Operations, for conflicts that occur between providers or providers and other NextCare associates
or management
Interfaces with customers, employers and the medical component of health plans as needed
Supports local marketing initiatives
In collaboration with the Area Operations Manager and Provider Scheduler, works to ensure that all
shifts are covered with adequate medical coverage to ensure minimal wait times for patients 365
days of the year
Serves a key role in provider recruitment in collaboration with the Provider Recruiter and assists in
the evaluation of provider compensation; serves as a liaison to educational institutions and
residency programs
Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and termination of providers in the local area, as applicable
Provides a key role in managing and mitigating risk
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides oversight to and actively implements clinical initiatives and delivery within the organization
Attends and serves, as requested, as a key member on NextCare Committees including, but not
limited to, Clinical Quality & Safety committee, and special task forces and project roll-out teams as
appropriate
Ensures and fosters collegial relationships with physicians providing services to NextCare Urgent
Care clinics via locum tenens agreement
Serves as a medical resource to providers as well as NextCare associates
Identifies and promotes opportunities to ensure clinical and provider competence and the delivery
of care in a manner that meets or exceeds community standards of care
Provides insight and feedback regarding opportunities for improvement in the delivery of clinical
services; serves as a resource in the evaluation of patient or referral complaints
Identifies and provides objective feedback on emerging clinical and technical trends
Only MD and DO may be required, when requested, to act as the Laboratory Director for assigned
clinics providing oversight for the technical operation and performance of the laboratory and working
in cooperation with the Laboratory Services Department's Technical Consultants
May be required, when requested, to act as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
Responsible for review of dosimetry reports
Monitoring and evaluation quality assurance activities relating to patient care that includes
utilization reviews, risk management and peer review.
Manages and supports clinical protocols with measurable and predictable results/outcomes
Trains new and existing providers as necessary. Serves as a NextGen Superuser for assigned area
of responsibility
Serves as the key local training mentor for providers regarding ongoing documentation and coding
training, when training need is identified
Provides guidance and counseling, as needed, in support of NextCare customer service goals.
Investigate and manage responses to customer service complaints, consulting with Senior VP
Medical Operations, as appropriate
Identifies and assists in the evaluation of new or emerging clinical applications
Ensures that medicine is practiced in accordance with the appropriate state Medical Practice Act as
enforced by the Board of Medical Examiners; stays up to date on Board rulings and changes/
potential changes in the Medical Practice Act
Ensures compliance with state and Federal licensing requirements, as appropriate. Serves as local
resource for Quality Assurance investigations, as needed.
Ensures that all Advanced Practice Provider supervision agreements are up-to-date and in force
whenever an APP is practicing. Ensures that changes to supervision due to provider turnover or
other reason are coordinated with the Provider Relations Specialist in a timely manner. Monitors
monthly APP chart review report and ensures supervisory state and NextCare requirements are
met.
Ensures patient rights by maintaining and enforcing patient confidentiality and patient rights issues
among medical staff issues
Serves as local DOT CME subject matter expert for providers and clinic staff. Is thoroughly familiar
with FMCSA and NextCare internal requirements.
Only MD or DO may be required to serve as an official "Supervising Physician" for Advanced
Practice Providers in local NextCare clinics when requested
In coordination with local Clinic Managers, ensures providers meet/maintain all Employee Health
requirements
May be required, when requested, to serve as controlled substance site director or pharmacy
board site director
Is expected that, in addition to the above-stated duties and responsibilities, the Associate Medical
Director will work as a clinical provider a minimum of 8 clinical shifts/month but no more than 12
clinical shifts/month, at an agreed-upon hourly wage, separate from the clinic management
compensation. The remainder of his/her duty will be to fulfill the administrative expectations of
the Associate Medical Director position.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Professional Qualifications:

Graduate of an approved medical or osteopathic medical school and completion of post-graduate
training in family medicine, emergency medicine or internal medicine (Physician Only)
Completion of an approved residency program in the United States (Physician Only)
Board Certified in family medicine, emergency medicine, or internal medicine (Physician Only)
Graduate of an approved Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program (APP Only)

Previous experience in an outpatient medical clinic, Emergency Department, or urgent care
Possess an unencumbered license to practice medicine in the state of supervision
Possess a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate
Possess a current DOT Certified Medical Examiner certificate or be enrolled in the MedPro training
with completion of certification within 90 days of course assignment date
BLS certification required

Willingness to obtain computer skills with a more comprehensive knowledge of the electronic
medical record (EMR)
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Proven track record or understanding and support in implementing change management
Previous experience in strategic planning
Previous experience in establishing standards in risk management
Previous experience in identifying training needs and oversight in the develop of educational
programs in response to those needs
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrates solid decision-making and negotiating skills
Demonstrates knowledge of compliance and regulatory issues
Prior management experience with demonstration of progressive responsibility or an MBA
preferred
