Medical Scribe Job Description

The Medical Scribe is a vital member of the medical staff, who not only assists physicians with charting and paperwork but also operates as a member of the medical team. A Medical Scribe's responsibilities include collaborating with physicians to document the visit in the electronic health record, printing out lab reports, completing medication reconciliation, prepping orders, and anticipating the needs of the physician to ensure efficiency in a clinical setting. Ultimately, the Medical Scribe is responsible for recording doctors' conversations with their patients and assisting them in completing paperwork after each visit. You'll be required to fill out summaries of what was discussed during the consultation or treatment session, as well as referral letters sent on behalf of the provider.

Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a Medical Scribe or similar role
  • Ability to expertly and quickly document patient care and transcribe patient appointments with quick typing skills.
  • Assure the accuracy of all documentation and records.
  • Advanced computer skills to transcribe and record information in our electronic health record (eClinical Works).
  • Keep the privacy of all patient information that you learn throughout your duties.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good bedside manners and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients effectively.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking notes during patient visits and documenting them in the electronic health records system
  • Learning about the medical process and using a team approach in patient supervision and documentation
  • Working with a supervising Physician or provider to complete and submit medical records.
  • Communicating with patients regarding visit and health information
  • Documentation of patients concerns.
  • Write referral letters, school/work letters, or other documentation as needed.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks like calls, letters and other clerical duties assigned by the provider.
  • Assist patients in scheduling outpatient specialty appointments if needed.
  • Establishing communication with clinical team to enhance supportive patient car.
  • Adheres to departmental and institutional policies and procedures while actively supporting the goals of FIGHT.
  • Performs other job-related activities as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit or stand and remain in a stationary position.
  • Must be able to walk, move, traverse about the inside of the office or laboratory.
  • Must be able to see, determine, identify, recognize, and inspect.
  • Must be able to operate, use, prepare, place, position computer equipment and/or laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, climb stairs.
  • Noise - Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
  • Minimal local travel required between Philadelphia FIGHT Community Health Centers

Other: Initial probationary period is three months.

Salary range: Competitive salary and benefits.

Work Hours: M-F 40 Hours/Week
