Data Center Metro Technician:

The Data Center Metro Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day activities that support data center operations and support of IT systems, network services, and business critical process and procedures that support the delivery of customer products and services. The ideal candidate is a strongly motivated self-starter who conducts themselves professionally and works under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Support data center operations and IT systems, network services, business critical processes and procedures to support the delivery of customer products and services.
  • Provide technical, operational and administrative support, including as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services.
  • Support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems.
  • Plan and execute network deployments.
  • Install and deploy IT and network hardware.
  • Make and run patch cables as well as verify testing cable paths.
  • Oversee access to, and work within, the Cloudflare facilities, including work related to structured cable installation, circuit delivery, and equipment installations.
  • Support maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and network services, including but not limited to break-fix work.
  • Perform Data Center hardware and inventory audits.
  • Process incoming shipment, label packages, and maintain designated storage.
  • Help manage tickets from end to end.
  • Travel to nearby cities.
  • Assist with capacity and power audits.

Required qualifications, skills, experience for success:

  • Have knowledge of and be familiar with:
    • cable management
    • computer components and basic troubleshooting (A+ and N+ certifications)
    • Linux
    • Cisco/Juniper/Arista/Infinera OS
    • Data Center facilities and environments
  • Have at least 3-4 years of remote hand working experience.
  • Be able to perform administrative work well, without supervision.
  • Be able to perform the Services independently, without supervision.
  • Have experience stacking and racking servers to a battery or other power source.
  • Be able to work on multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and ensuring up-time.
  • Be able to lead projects and work autonomously on servers, routers, and switches.
  • Hands-on experience with CWDM/DWDM systems (Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Coriant).
  • Be proficient with DCIM tools and ticketing systems such as JIRA.
  • Have access to a car and be able to drive between sites in the same metro area if needed.

Preferred Qualities Leading to Success:

  • Be IITL and CCNA certified.
  • Be able to lift 55lbs (25kg) servers/network equipment.
  • Be organized and excellent with documentation.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Have experience planning and executing network deployments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks.
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly.
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently within various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors.
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses.
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables.
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow.
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required.
