The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness is a critical leadership position at Curry College, directly supporting the institution's mission and strategic initiatives by providing reliable research and data to facilitate informed decision-making across the College. Reporting to the Provost, the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness is tasked with maintaining and refining institutional assessment and effectiveness processes to enhance the quality of educational programs, improve student outcomes, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness will translate complex data into actionable insights, thereby empowering various departments, including academic affairs, student affairs, student services, finance, and facilities, to make data-driven decisions. This position acts as a pivotal link between the administration and faculty, providing data support for institutional projects, strategic planning, and policy formulation.

Key interactions include:

  • Provost and Senior Leadership Team: Collaborates closely with senior administrators to align data strategies with institutional goals and priorities.
  • Academic Departments and Faculty: Provides data and assessment support to enhance curriculum development, student learning outcomes, and academic performance.
  • Student Affairs and Student Services: Works with these departments to assess and improve student engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
  • Finance and Facilities: Supports financial planning and facility management through data-driven insights.
  • External Stakeholders: Represents the College in interactions with federal, state, and local authorities, ensuring accurate and timely data reporting and compliance.

The role demands a high level of expertise in data analysis, research methodologies, and assessment techniques, along with exceptional communication and collaborative skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  1. Institutional Research Management
    • Data Collection and Analysis
      • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report data for decision-making, planning, and compliance reporting;
      • Submit college information to federal, state, and local authorities for data reporting, research studies, or surveys;
      • Develop and maintain databases for storing and managing institutional data;
      • Ensure data quality and consistency through regular audits and validation checks.
    • Reporting
      • Prepare state, federal, and college accountability reports ensuring accuracy and timeliness;
      • Serve as the IPEDS Keyholder and Qualtrics Administrator;
      • Generate customized reports for various stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and external agencies;
      • Provide ad-hoc reporting services to address specific data needs and inquiries.
    • Consultation and Support
      • Provide institutional research support for various institutional projects;
      • Consult with individuals and departments on research needs;
      • Offer training and workshops on data usage, interpretation, and reporting;
      • Collaborate with academic and administrative units to enhance data literacy and utilization.
  2. Institutional Assessment Leadership
    • Infrastructure Development
      • Coordinate the development and implementation of assessment infrastructure across academic affairs, student affairs, student services, finance, and facilities;
      • Establish and maintain a centralized assessment management system;
      • Develop assessment policies and procedures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
      • Ensure alignment of assessment activities with accreditation standards and requirements.
    • Assessment Coordination
      • Lead and coordinate the College's assessment efforts, including the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (LOAC);
      • Collect, analyze, and report data on the College's performance;
      • Facilitate the development of assessment plans at the departmental and unit levels;
      • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of assessment activities and recommend improvements.
    • Plan Development
      • Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive college assessment plan;
      • Guide departments in identifying learning outcomes and goals linked to the College's mission and strategic plan;
      • Provide technical support for the design and implementation of assessment tools and methodologies;
      • Compile and disseminate best practices in assessment and continuous improvement.
  3. Strategic Plan Support
    • Strategic Planning
      • Support the development and implementation of the College's strategic plan;
      • Assess the achievement of institutional goals, including diversity, retention, and degree progress;
      • Assist in the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks.
    • Data Analysis
      • Perform analysis of institutional and related data for continuous improvement;
      • Collect and identify assessment results for the College Strategic Plan;
      • Conduct comparative analyses using peer and benchmarking data;
      • Develop predictive models and trend analyses to inform strategic decision-making.
  4. Data Stewardship and Compliance
    • System Development
      • Create systems for data collection and analysis, ensuring efficient access and usage;
      • Collaborate with data input areas to understand business practices and improve data collection processes;
      • Implement data governance frameworks to ensure data integrity and security;
      • Develop data management protocols and standards for consistent data handling.
    • Data Integrity Monitoring
      • Monitor data integrity and compliance with state and federal requirements;
      • Correct data discrepancies as necessary;
      • Conduct regular data audits and reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance;
      • Implement data quality improvement initiatives.
    • Process Implementation
      • Develop and implement processes for linking and analyzing data from internal systems and external agencies;
      • Streamline data integration and reporting processes;
      • Enhance data accessibility through the development of user-friendly dashboards and visualization tools;
      • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for data systems and tools.

Additional Functions:

  • Participate in committee activities and college-wide initiatives including the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (LOAC); Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Retention Committee;
  • Provide assistance and backup for related positions as needed;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or their designee;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Higher Education Administration, Educational Research, Data Science);
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in institutional research and assessment;
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SPSS, Tableau);
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills;
  • Familiarity with federal and state data reporting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in a related field;
  • Experience with accreditation processes and standards;
  • Advanced skills in database management and data governance frameworks;
  • Previous experience in a higher education setting.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, and bending are required;
  • Use of a computer keyboard and screen for periods of time with close vision and manual dexterity are required.
